The Samaritan Woman

Jesus is a Friend Bible Lesson | By Shelia Biggers

"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you" John 15:12 (KJV).

MATERIALS NEEDED: Bible, Lesson plan, Worksheet

THINK ABOUT THIS: Have you ever tried to tell your friends about Jesus? What was their reaction? How does that make you feel?

ACTIVITY: You are with most of your friends at school. Where or when in school do you find an opportunity to talk with your friends about whatever you want. (recess, lunch table, free time, standing in line, on the bus)

What are some things you talk to your friends about? (write this on the board):
(Family, Pets, Sports, Favorite Games, Friends, Movies, Music, Computers, Church, Mall, Cars, Boats, Trucks, Books, Vacations, Money/Allowance, Jesus, Heaven, Clothes.)

What are some ways we can show love to others? (let children respond and then say…)
"The best way we can show love to others is to tell them about Jesus."

BIBLE LOOKUP: John 15: 12-15

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
This was after the Lord’s supper when he had talked and ate with the disciples and washed their feet.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Jesus was talking about his dying on the cross here, but the disciples didn’t realize it.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. What was the commandment? V. 12

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Jesus talked with his friends and told them everything that God had revealed to him. He wanted them to know everything He knew.

John 4:3-30, 39-42

MY COMMENTS:
Jesus took the time to talk with the woman at the well.
He told her what she needed to know about accepting eternal life.
He also revealed himself to her that he was more than just a normal man.
He spoke to her as a FRIEND because that is what he wanted to be to everyone.

After her discussion with Jesus, the woman at the well ran into the city to tell everyone. Several people came back to talk with Jesus. He touched many lives that day by simply talking with the ONE woman.

FRIENDSHIP WORKSHEET, see below: (Fill in the names of your friends in the left hand column.)
Choose something off the board to tell them about Jesus.

Jesus loves you. Jesus can be your friend.
Jesus is a good listener. Jesus is God’s Son.
Jesus can forgive our sins. Jesus wants you to be happy.
Jesus is sad when you are sad. Jesus wants you to be with him forever.

Take this with you this week and when you are with one of your friends, tell that person what is on your paper. Pray before you speak to your friend. Jesus will give you the right words to say.

SING: “OH, HOW HE LOVES YOU AND ME”
