Treasures Under The Snow

A Winter Bible Lesson

Activity
Snowflake paper cutting, such as the Chrismon Snowflake Ornaments or Butterfly Chrismon
Snowflake maze
Winter word find

Props

1) A few bulb flower pictures or silks flowers, real grass and some weeds
2) Make a small 5 building town (I already have a some plastic ones). You can make some buildings from card stock (I have some templates I got off the web that would work good.)
Take the buildings and put a little Plaster-of-Paris on the roofs and lawn (Make it look like it really snowed on it, you can use small branches for trees). You can use some loose snowflakes from your Christmas supplies (You could make some very small flakes from white plastic bags too) to sprinkle over the village as you do the lesson or let the kids do it.

Lesson

What are the treasures under the Snow? Have you entered into the storehouses of the snow? Job 38:22

One of the first things we see in the late winter and after the snow fall has covered the ground and the ground is no longer frozen are flowers coming up through the earth. They have been waiting and growing towards the day they can SPRING forth reaching for the sun. All the time the seeds of the flowers, grass and even the weeds were in the ground that was under the snow.

Can you think of other living plants that might be under the snow? (grass, tulips, "any bulb plants" and weeds)

It snows in the middle east even in Israel where Jesus was born.

The TREASURES in the Bible don't have very many place in it that talks about the snow. The ones I found were 22 verses, 8 references relate to people and point to the treasures we will talk about. (see below, for all the references).

The most important treasure is a life that has been given to us is Jesus.
And He gave us SALVATION!
Let us read about a few verses about Sins being white as snow:
Isa 1:18 though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Lam 4:7 purer than snow
Ps 51:7 wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

That is what these Bible verses are talking about, people giving their lives to Jesus and what God gives to them.

But what else is included in a life that has been given to Jesus?
What are the treasures under the snow (of a Christian life)?

[Let the Children name some, right or wrong.]

Let me see now. Oh, yes!
I know some, they are all the gifts of the Spirit, and faith, hope, love, love joy peace, etc.
Gifts: God Gave gifts to us: Eph 4:8, 1Co 12:28, Heb 2:4
Fruit: Even the Fruit of the Spirit are part of the treasures under the snow:
Galatians 5:22-23 "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

Yes, the treasures under the snow for a Christian are Salvation and then many, many gifts and a life that keeps on giving the greatest gift of all--LOVE. 1Co 13:13

Always remember it was LOVE, John 3:16, that God gave that produced a life that is whiter than snow and full of treasures to be shared with others.

Do you have a treasure chest in you?
As the snow holds the treasures of NEW LIFE for plants.
God wants YOU to have the NEW LIFE in Jesus to use and share His treasures.
Would you like to have this treasure in you?
Come let us talk to God now and ask him to come into your live so that just like the snow holds treasures, you want the treasures that God has for you in Jesus.
