1) Missionaries to Cuba A missionary couple, both 26 years old, who serve in Cuba, were traveling in North Carolina this past Monday, 2/20/2012. While going over an overpass they hit a patch of black ice and lost control of their car. The mother was badly injured, but their precious 3 year old daughter was killed. 3) Forty Days Devotional At the onset of Jesus' ministry, immediately following God's approval of him and coronation as the Messiah, the Spirit of God led him into the desert to be tempted. Jesus was tempted in three ways: 1) "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, 'If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.' 4) Yummy Devotion: Prayer Pretzels Pretzels were originally made by monks to ease their hunger during Lenten fasting. They shaped them to resemble crossed arms in prayer. The pretzels were made with flour and water and no yeast because in the Bible yeast symbolizes sin. The pretzel reminds us of our need to rid the sin in our own lives, and our need to repent and turn to Jesus for cleansing from sin (See 1Corinthians 5:6-8). As Christians we need to examine our lives everyday. We need to ask God to show us our sins: "Search us, O God..." as Psalm 139 requests, and receive God's cleansing: "Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin..." Psalm 51.
