1) Aggressive Helper

> I have a helper  that had offered to our pastor to be a helper regarding
> I have already talked to her, but the same things slowly keep cropping up
> again.  Any ideas? Losing joy in PA

Dear Losing joy in PA;

What does God's Word say?  You have already done the first thing.  You
have
TALKED TO HER.  If that doesn't work.... the WORD OF GOD says... take a
witness.  There is no need to tell her... but you can invite one of the
parents to join you for a class.  Maybe for a whole month... invite one of
the parents, a different parent each week.  They do not participate, just
observe.  Then listen to what the parents have to say about how she does
things.  IF there is still a problem take these parents to the pastor, AS
WITNESSES.

If you were at a company, and had a problem with your co-worker, you would
go to the boss.  It is the same here.  It is the BOSS' responsibility to
speak to the employee.  Same here.  Take the parents to the PASTOR.  It is
HIS RESPONSIBILITY to speak to the aggressive helper.

2) Scenes from Passion

>"After seeing "The Passion", I'm curious if anyone knows the meaning
>behind these >two parts of the movie:  Satan carrying a baby with an
>angry look as they walked >through the crowd . . .

Genesis 3:15
So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed
are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals!  You will crawl
on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.  And I will
put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

3) Holy Week Mobile

I downloaded the He's Risen Egg Holders this morning.
I did this because I purchased the eggs for our small church to use them
as our children's message on Palm Sunday and Easter.  We will also
incorporate a set in our between services Easter Egg Hunt allowing the
children that find one of these "special" eggs to trade it in for a
prize (Hopefully the children will be able to tell us what the egg stands
for by  the picture alone in "exchange" for the prize).  ...

With your egg holders and adding the verses to the backs as
eggs, I just had an idea for Holy Week. The "Eggs" could be a special Holy
Week Bible Study.  Here's how I think it could work:

Palm Sunday -- Study all the text for Egg 1 - decorate the Egg and make it
the first item used in a hanging Holy Week Symbols Mobile.

Monday - Study text and decorate Eggs 2 and 3 -- add to Mobile
Tuesday -- Study text and decorate Eggs 4 and 5 -- add to Mobile
Wednesday -- Study text and decorate Eggs 6 and 7 -- add to Mobile
Thursday -- Study text and decorate Eggs 8 and 9 -- add to Mobile
Friday -- Study text and decorate Eggs 10 and 11 -- add to Mobile
Saturday -- No new egg -- review text for all eggs and admire your Mobile
Easter Morning -- Study text and decorate Egg 12 in a glorious way --
Add as "crowning" touch to Holy Week Mobile!

This would be a great family project.  The adults and older children to
read and study the text, younger children as egg decorators and Mobile
creators learning the main theme for each egg.

I was also thinking that this ties so well with The Passion of the Christ
film by Mel Gibson.  I know after I saw the film, I came home and read
each of the Gospels from the Garden through the burial.  This would take
you even further, from Palm Sunday through the Resurrection.

Just another idea for you to use if you would like.

May God Bless you and christiancrafters.com
In His Service,
Lynette

4) Aggressive Helper

Have you considered training this "aggressive" helper?  I'm sure your
church could use substitute teachers.  Give her an opportunity to do
different things in the class - songs, games, story, crafts, etc.  Find
out her ideas, ask her to give you suggestions.  Try to beat her to the
punch.  Don't give her a chance to criticize but asking for her help or
input ahead of time.  Try to encourage her and lift her up so that she
feels needed and loved by the students and parents like you are.  (If all
else fails, pray harder and be the faithful example you need to be for
Christ.)

Hope it helps.

5) Resurrection Eggs

Here is how I have used Resurrection Eggs over the past several years.
About 3 weeks prior to Easter, I bring the eggs into the classroom.
(Sometimes it is multiple sets, depending upon the number of children in
my class.)  Each child is given an egg and told not to open it until i
tell them.  The first couple times, I tell them the order of the colors.
As the child opens the egg, he/she tells what was hiding in the egg and
how it relates to Easter.  As the children get more familiar with the
colors and the objects, they must put themselves in the correct egg order,
tell what is in it, open it to be sure they are correct and then tell
their part of the events associated with the object in their egg.  It is
amazing how quickly the children grasp not only the events and the correct
order, but also the significance of the objects in the eggs.

This is good for all school aged children and up.  I have found that many
adults have never seen or heard of Resurrection Eggs and find they cannot
correlate the objects in the eggs to the related events in Christ's life.
This always makes me wonder where they have been!

6) Passion movie

>Just wondered if anyone knew what Mel Gibson had in mind when he included
>these."

Cathy, the part where Satan was carrying the baby, was an indication of
the anti-christ.

the 2 Mary's wiping up the blood is an indication of how a mother feels
about her son. I would not want my son's blood left there like. It could
have also been  a 'law' back then, that the family had to clean up the
blood of the 'criminal' after the scourging.

7) Program for small Sunday Schools

Over the years I have worked with many small groups of children in very
small churches.  I have developed several 4-8 week session programs, which
can be used as a Sunday school class or Children's church setting.  They
are easy to follow, fun, filled with activities, crafts, songs and more.
They are generally inexpensive because many small churches are financially
strapped.  You may find some of them at
http://home.earthlink.net/~eugenendianne/    Please try one out and e-mail
me to let me know what you think.  I have others in the works.   Good
Luck. Dianne Richards.

8)  Aggressive Helper

You say your helper was placed in your room by your pastor?   Then get
with him and explain....Really explain. Don't make excuses for her.   You
have already talked with her...that's the first step.  Now go to the
pastor with her.   Have him explain why he put her there.  Did you say she
had been "hurt" in the past....maybe her actions are explaining why....If
you feel so strongly that you should be teaching then teach and give her
specific parts to do.  Put her in charge of one thing such as the memory
verse or object lesson (which you have choose a few -letting her pick) or
craft time. Maybe this will help.

Amazing Miracles of the Bible

God’s glory and love are revealed through the miracles he performed and
were fully realized when he came to earth in the form of a man to save
mankind. By studying the miracles of the Bible children will gain a better
understanding of God’s love and faithfulness and how he continues to be
loving and faithful in miraculous ways to his people today. Great for
rotation-type programs!

10) Seventeen year Old

I just wanted to say that I admire your desire to teach the little ones.
You mentioned your lack of preparation.  I think we can all admit that
there are weeks when we don't have as much time as we would like to
prepare.  One remedy can be a schedule of things that we do each week:

Welcome
Sing
Memory Work
Prayer -- discuss prayer requests
story time
the end of story time is always a good time to bring the group to a
discussion of accepting Jesus as their savior.  A good time to pray again,
giving the children the opportunity.
coloring and craft time.

What else do others do during the SS period?  I would love to hear.

It's also a good idea to have a few tricks up your sleeve to pull out when
you see that the children need a change of pace.  In the Spring we might
take a walk out side and look for signs of spring.
Maybe a game.  Or we have sets of rhythm (sp) instruments that we don't
use
EVERY week, but are a special treat.

Hope this helps.  SS needs to be FUN.  In these days, children often get
to
choose whether they attend or not.  If it is not fun, they won't come and
will always have a negative view of church.  It is our job to give them a
positive image of the church in their youngest years.  Not always an easy
task if there is no help from parents.

11) Family VBS

To Sarah in Ottawa,
I belong to a very small church and have been the Sunday School
supervisor and committee head for over four years now.
I have ALWAYS  encouraged a family VBS . "VBS,it's NOT just for kids!"
Because summer time is a busy time for both kids and adults, every year I
have a one day VBS. It's always on a Saturday and usually runs from 10am
to
3pm with lunch provided. This one day program allows a family to plan for
a
one day event instead of having to plan for a whole week of "Who's taking
the kids to VBS tonight?" or "You can't  go this week, you have VBS". And
getting volunteers for one day is SO much easier!!
I have NEVER used a VBS kit but have gotten many of my material from them
and from great web sites like christiancrafters.com.
If I can be of more help, just drop me a line at  jwcats1@earthlink.net
