Two Resurrection Snacks

Food Devotions to Celebrate Easter

1) Empty Tomb - Easter Rolls
 by Dana Gagnon

Ingredients: refrigerated crescent dough, a bag of large marshmallows, cinnamon, melted butter.

Directions: Give each child a triangle of dough. Brush the dough with butter. Place a marshmallow in the center of the dough triangle. (The white marshmallow represents Jesus.) You can sprinkle cinnamon on the marshmallow. (Perhaps representing how Jesus took on our sin on the cross...) Wrap the dough around the marshmallow. Make sure you leave no holes. (You are wrapping Jesus in a dough tomb.) Bake the rolls according to package instructions (about 10 minutes). When the children eat their rolls, they'll discover an Easter surprise: The tomb is empty! (The marshmallow melts and sweetens the cinnamon on the inside of the roll.)

2) Empty Tomb - Twinkies Treat
by Sally Nixon

Here is a fun snack for Easter and to celebrate the resurrection. Keep paper towels on hand because it's a little messy, but kids love it.

Ingredients:
1 Twinkies cake
1 Medium size cookie
White or green frosting (canned is fine)
Optional Shredded Coconut (dyed green with food coloring)
You also need a spoon and paper plate per child, and paper towels.

Spread a layer of frosting on the paper plate. Scoop out the inside of the Twinky with a spoon and make a small opening on one side (this is the door of the tomb). Stick the Twinky onto the plate and frosting. Sprinkle coconut "grass" onto the remaining frosting on the plate. Place the small round cookie across the door. Then you can roll away the cookie to see the empty tomb.

Even kids that don't like coconut get a real kick out of making this snack. You can keep some extra cookies on hand for them.
