Journey To The Cross

A Creative Way to Tell The Resurrection Story

Burma shave sign to tell Gospel message

Burma Shave signs were an advertising method popular from 1925 to 1963. Large signs were placed at intervals along U.S. highways, with each one showing a line of a four-part rhyme, with the last sign usually reading "Burma-Shave." By placing similar signs along the front of our church properties, homes, or places of business, it would be a creative way to tell the Journey to the Cross story! Rather than "Burma Shave" completing the four-part rhyme, "Jesus Saves!" completes each gospel phrase.

Below, are a few rhymes to get you started.

Lent is underway.
So kneel down and pray.
Tell God you've sinned.
And let him come in!

JESUS SAVES!

Jesus Christ,
Our Passover Lamb.
Was sent from the Father.
So we wouldn't be damned.

JESUS SAVES!

As you travel this highway,
Consider the road Jesus took.
He chose the cross,
Which he could have forsook.

JESUS SAVES!

He was hailed as King,
The palm fronds waved high.
Within one week,
They wanted him to die!

With 30 pieces of silver,
Judas betrayed him that day.
He kissed Jesus' cheek,
And then ran away!

Jesus went to the cross.
He was sinless and pure.
He took on our sin.
And that is for sure.

JESUS SAVES!

He was thinking of you,
When he hung on the tree.
He took on your punishment,
To set you free.

JESUS SAVES!

Two thieves on the cross
Hung next to the Master.
One asked for salvation,
One chose disaster!

Jesus died on the cross
Then rose from the dead.
He's coming again-
Just like he said.

JESUS SAVES!

They went to the tomb.
It was empty you see.
Jesus was risen
Our Christ was set free.

JESUS SAVES!
