Props: a butterfly
puppet.
(Say:) Who knows what a butterfly is before it changes into a butterfly? (Listen for answers.)
Yes, it's a caterpillar. The Bible uses a word for being changed, (transformed to be like Jesus,
see Romans 12:2), which is related to the word metamorphosis, the word we use to describe how caterpillars become butterflies. This change is described in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come."
Becoming a new creation is a metamorphosis, or change, that God makes happen in our hearts and lives when God saves us.
Can a caterpillar fly? Does it look or act like a butterfly? No. But when the caterpillar's metamorphosis, or change, happens, it becomes a new creature--it becomes a butterfly. You see, the caterpillar can no longer look or act like a caterpillar because it has become an entirely new creature.
Boys and girls, that's how it is when God saves us. We are forgiven for all the wrong things we have done, and God sees Jesus living in us. The Holy Spirit then helps us follow and obey God.
Would you like this kind of change, or metamorphosis, to happen in your life? You can, if you ask Jesus into your life, God has promised to make you into a new creature--not a butterfly, of course--but a child of God who will live with Him for all eternity!
Let's Pray
"Dear God, thank you for forgiving our sins through Jesus and for making us new creatures who can live with you forever! Amen."
