1) Crafts Apology

I wrote an email that has offended a number of people concerning what I
thought was an over-use of crafts in church. I want to apologize for
offending you, and I am truly sorry. At the time I made my comments, I was
frustrated that everything I seemed to find concerning children and
worship revolved around a craft project. I feel worship time is a time to
lead the children in worshipping from their hearts so that they know when
they leave children's church that they have worshipped their Lord and have
been renewed by His love for them and increased their desire to live for
Him. I apologize for offending you, and I applaud your defending your
positions because it shows how dedicated you are in serving the Lord and
His children. I'm not against crafts or fun or hands-on teaching the way
Christ did when He was teaching. But when Christ turned His heart to
worship His Father.......anyway, there's a big difference, and that
difference is what I want to impress on the children. Again, I'm sorry for
offending you. Nancy

--from SSTN:
Dear Nancy:
Your point of worshipping is well taken. One way we've encouraged worship
time in our children's ministry is through singing. I can remember a few
years ago teaching our kids the Lord's Prayer in song. We sang it a
cappella. It was one of the most worshipful times I can remember!

3) Valentine's Banquet

Hi there!  Last year our church did a Valentine's Banquet (we are very
small -- we had about 20 people total!).  Last year for the first time we
played a game similar to the newlywed game.  We had about 5 couples
participating and it was a lot of fun.  I came up with questions of my own
(which is kind of hard for me because I'm not real creative!!).  I
incorporated things that were biblical, etc.  This year I am going to do
the same thing.  I purchased on Ebay the Newlywed Game (just received it
yesterday!) and it has a lot of really good questions I can use.

Also, I filled a big jar with all kinds of candy (candy hearts, little
chocolates, etc.) and had a game where everyone guesses the amount of
candies in the jar.  The prize was the jar of candy.  Also, I want to try
this (but haven't yet) -- have everyone submit a picture when they got
married (or even when they were a baby) and have a contest.  Either choose
the cutest couple or try and guess the baby pictures.  I think it would be
fun (especially at my church because we are so small).  A larger
congregation might be harder.

Always give out prizes for the oldest couple, newest couple, etc.  Last
year our oldest couple was married almost 70 years!!!  I already had a
picture of them together and had it blown up and framed.  It was really
neat because not long after the husband passed away.  It was a great
present for his wife to cherish!!

I got most of my decorations online.  Oriental Trading had quite a few,
plus there was another one (I'm sorry I can't remember their name) but do
a search and you will come up with all kinds.  We kept all of ours from
last year so we won't be needing any more!

Hope this helps!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Julie

4) Six Days of Creation song

Here is a link to the "Six Days of Creation" song that is sung to the tune
of the "Twelve Days of Christmas".  You can just look at the words and
chords to the music or you can download to a midi file from this sight.
Hope this helps!

6) Valentine's Banquet

valentines banguet ideas... ours had a version of the oldie wed game
(newly), also pictures of couples on their wedding day or close to it....
then everyone guessed who the couples were, redhots on each table were
used as a game when each table had to come up with a design with them. it
wasnt a formal banquet but was lots of fun. it was closed out with a verse
of unchained melody by one of the men from our church... hope this helps.

7) Friend Day Craft?

I have a request.  I would like a craft idea for FRIEND DAY at our
church.  I have done a couple of things, but need something fresh and
new.
The kids are 4th graders, so it is tough finding a craft that is not too
childish. I have mostly girls and about 3 boys.  My strengthseems to be in
the actual teaching, but I find the craft part of S.S. to be a challenge.
We are focusing on FRIENDS for that particular class as well as continuing
my class on the book of ACTS, where we are currently in CH. 13.

Thank you.

9) Valentine's Party

We have done a Valentine Sweetheart Desserts Banquet for the past 2 years.
We don't do anything fancy, but people really enjoy it. We have all
desserts, do a couple of drawings, and do a couple of simple games. But
the part that most people really enjoy is the conversation. I also type up
a little favor for them to take home with the name of the church on the
back for the outreach aspect. I have made bookmarks and little cards with
scripture. I hope this helps you out some.

Kelcy
