>I teach Sunday School to K, 1, 2 grades. I come from a small church
>that is relatively poor. I am looking for curriculum I can used to
>teach the children. Right now I am teaching them the Ten Commandments.
>So far they know five of them.

I teach K-6 grades. We have an extremely small class. We decided this year
not to purchase curriculum as nothing seems to cover the wide age group plus
the small size class. I have found Dangerous Devotions and More Dangerous
Devotions to be extremely helpful. One is based on the New Testament and the
other on the Old Testament. Though they are not meant to be used for this
purpose, I have been able to base many of my lessons on these two books. I
just add some crafts and have biblical games ready to play to reinforce their
learning. Hope this helps.

(From ChristianCrafters.Com- Linda, from the network, sent the above emergency #'s to me. I thought it was so neat, and wanted to share it with you too. It could be used as an ongoing lesson plan and possibly a craft whereby your students could make a phone-shaped phone book with the important emergency numbers contained in it. They would pick one of their favorite #'s to read and memorize the verse or verses for the rest of the class. Just a thought! ;o)

Here is one of my favorite activities with kids:

When studying either the subject of the ascension of Jesus from Acts chapter
1 or the idea of Jesus' return try this:

Go and buy a regular helium filled rubber balloon. Have all the kids write
their name on the balloon with magic markers. Take the balloon and the
children outside. While all the children are holding on to the string, talk
about how Jesus went up into heaven in Acts chapter 1 and read the passage.

On the count of 1..2..3 have the children release the balloon into the air
and follow it with their eyes as it disappears into the sky.

Follow up with a discussion on what it must have been like for the apostles
to see Jesus' ascension. Complete the discussion with the statement of the
angel about how Jesus will come again.

"9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a
cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the
sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside
them. 11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into
the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come
back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." - Acts 1:9-11 (NIV)

With Valentine's Day coming up, I like to have each of my students make valentines along with a letter about themselves to Mark and Becky Bryan, the missionary family we pray for in our Sunday school class. (Each year our church has a Missions Sunday Emphasis day. All the SS classes are assigned a missionary family to pray for during the year. Including the adult classes.) In the Valentine letters the boys remind our missionary family that we are praying for them. I did this with our class two years ago and it was a meaningful day. We also photographed the boys and sent their picture along too.

If anyone else has a Valentine's Day idea for Sunday School use, please share it with the Network!

(Check out the Christian Crafters Showcase for a free craft idea entitled 'Computer Bugs". Sent in by Mark & Becky Bryan, our missionary family!)
