1) Game: Jesus Feeds 5000

My husband and I teach Sunday School once a month. During our time, we have been trying out a new game time activity. It seems to be really working and the children are retaining most of the lesson (we have a wide range of ages.)

Last week our lesson was on the feeding of the 5,000 and how the little boy shared his lunch.

Before the class began my husband went to the Sunday School room and hid a...

2) Male Angel Costume (multiple answers, below)

> any suggestions on how to make the head angel whiter and brighter without being feminine?

You could use a white karate outfit or a white tuxedo. Sherri

===

Why not make your "other" angels "off white" or pale yellow....then the male angel could simply wear white...just a thought

====

Try spraying a white robe with glitter hairspray or floral spray. You can also use battery operated light strings under the robe. Tanya

====

How about a set of battery operated light bulbs draped around his collar. If the wiring is green, cover it with white electrical tape. His face could appear to be aglow with the presence of God. ~~Vicki L.

====

How about U. V. Lighting? Chief angel could have a longer, more impressive cape treated to react with so-called 'black light.' Black light is a form of U V light - not like the UV in tanning machines. blacklight will not tan. Used sensibly it is safe. Check here for details http://www.whitelight.ltd.uk/uploaded/images/websitefiles/E002_UV.pdf
Also search the web for other suppliers. If the angels appear against a dark background, in one part of the performing area, with other stage lights dimmed, it may only take one 40 watt blacklight bulb and a cloak soaked in a solution of an appropriate washing powder to make him stand out white and brighter. Just check that none of the other angels' Mums wash their costumes in the same stuff before the performance! It is also possible to get stage make-ups that glow under blacklight. Frances UK

====

If your “regular” angels are wearing white cotton clothing, your head angel could have a shinier white fabric to wear. (It would reflect more light, looks brighter, whiter.)

====

Rachel,

There are several ways to accomplish this. One way you could distinguish him from the others is have him dress in all white, but instead of the traditional robe type costume have him dress in white long sleeve shirt, white pants and white shoes. He could also wear a white belt (you can spray paint or use fabric paint if you can't find one) then you can attach (Probably duck tape would hold) those tiny flashlights on the underside of the belt and let them shine upwards. Another idea is to get one of the flat push night lights (battery of course) like seen on TV a few years back, they sell them at places like the dollar store and Wal-Mart now. Anyway attach it to a strap or belt that will fit around his chest, slip his robe over it and turn it on, presto an angel with a glowing heart!
Hope this helps.

Best of luck,
Tammy

4)
Movie WARNING: "The Golden Compass"

You may already know about the kid’s movie coming out in December starring Nicole Kidman. It's called The Golden Compass, and while it will be a watered down version, it is based on a series of children's books about killing God (It is the anti-Narnia series). Please follow this link and then pass it on. From what I understand, the hope is to get a lot of kids to see the movie - which won't seem too bad - and then get the parents to buy the books for their kids for Christmas. The quotes from the author sum it all up. Please read the Snopes information by clicking on the link below: http://snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp

5) Interfering Parents?

Hi, folks!

I know that this topic was discussed in your newsletters in the distant past, but it wasn’t an issue for me then and so I didn’t commit the information to memory. Now it has become stressful and I’d love the readers’ input for: Two and Three Year Olds Class

How do teachers of this age class deal with parents who want to be present during each weekly session, but interfere through their side conversations and/or constant interaction with their child? How do younger siblings fit in when the parents are present with them in tow? Our teacher would like to restrict parents from being in the room at all during sessions, but the parents are resisting that request. I’d appreciate your input.

Thanks!
Linda

--from SSTN: having parents in class can be a huge benefit. But, you must use them to your advantage. You do this by giving them kind instruction. For example before or after your class say, "It's great having you in class, I can really use your help. Then tell them what you'd like them to do for you during class time. Or  during the actual class time say, "Ms. or Mr. So and So, will you please hand these papers out to everyone." or "Will you please get your table to listen", or "Can you sit with this group over here, they need help cutting, pasting, etc."  And if they're talking during class, respectfully, and always with a smile say, "It's time for everyone to be quiet, that means you too mom and dad." Bottom line, if they want to be in class, put em' to work. As to under aged kids in tow, direct the parents to take them to the appropriate age class.

6) Jesus' Genealogy Not Confusing

Luke gives Joseph's (the husband of Mary's) genealogy. This Joseph's father is Heli
as it says.

Matthew gives the genealogy of Jesus which does go through Mary as Mary is his mother.
Mary's father is named Joseph. That Joseph is the father of Mary, of whom was born Jesus,
who is the Christ.

That's the only way it all adds up according to the scripture on this subject.

) Age of the Earth presentation

Have you ever had troubles with Christians believing that God created everything ... but that evolution was "His way" of creating? -- or that Adam & Eve were real but ... before them, there were millions or even billions of years of time, that the Bible just never mentions?

This lesson presentation is designed to uphold the Biblical age of the Earth, and also to de-bunk those "compelling proofs" that evolutionists give, to say that the Bible is wrong about ... "yet another" important fact of science.

8) Live Nativity?

Hey Guys! Thanks for all of the great information that you guys post on this newsletter. I have gotten so many wonderful ideas during my first year as a children's director. I am searching for a resource to help me stage a Live Nativity with my children. I can't seem to find anything applicable. I check our Group's Little Town of Bethlehem, but that is way more involved that I want to get. I just want to stage the nativity part and have the children sing carols. I am really torn on the whole live animals because I feel that is detrimental to the animals and possibly dangerous to my children. So I guess I would rather try to make animal costumes for the children. Any suggestions are welcome. You can email me directly. Thanks so much.
