--> USA Patriotic Catcher ... July 4th Activity

With the "USA Patriotic Catcher Toy" kids learn the answers to eight basic
USA citizenship questions such as, "Why did the Pilgrims come to
America?"; What is the US Constitution?, and "What does the First
Amendment guarantee?". A great activity for July 4th! Kids can make it and
take it home! Print out as many patterns as you need for a onetime nominal
fee.

Find the USA Patriotic Catcher at:

1) Shepherd's Rod Treat

"Lord Is My Shepherd - Psalm 23" lesson series.
You can find it on the VBS link at:

2) Outer Space Theme

I have been building an upcoming lesson on kind of an outer space them
regarding the verse that says God calls you to be in this world and not of
it.  I am collecting alien stuff to use.  I teach girls and found small
rings and a charm for them to keep to remind us that we are aliens in this
world and just passing through. lol
We have used the story of Abraham for pastor appreciation day before as
well.  We made a large mural and had the bible verse where God told him
his descendents would be as many as the stars in the sky.  I just used a
blue background and bought the precut yellow stars and letters.  Each
child had their name on a star and it filled the mural up.  He liked it so
much, he kept it.

3) Family Bible study?

I am looking for some information and materials about a family centered
bible study.  I would like to start one in our church next September.

Thank you, Sam

4) Bear Idea

We use a "Bible Bear", cutely dressed, with an extra pair of clothing.  He
is in a soft homemade bag with his own Bible and Journal.  Each week a
member child (not guests) takes him home (from the alphabetic attendance
list that we check off for reference) and takes him around town or
wherever.
The journal (small binder is best so that pages can be added) is to record
his trips and prayer requests for that family.  They really can't wait for
their turn to take him home.  It has been going on for a while and is fun
to look back at siblings who once took him home.

6) Parental Involvement?

We are doing our VBS in the Park again this summer which
consists of every Wednesday evening from 7-8 in June and July....we can
get
the kids to follow through with our Wed. evening program throughout the
year, but have had no success with encouraging parents to visit our
church, to visit our once a quarter Kid's & Parents Meal or even to try
our Sunday School.... need ideas, suggestions for encouraging parents to
be interested and come with their children....Thanks for any and all
ideas.  Thanks for your wonderful newsletter.
Love in Christ,
NFlohr5948@verizon.net

7) Spare Rod, spoil child...Not Biblical

> "Spare the rod and spoil the child".

Please be advised that the scripture does not say that.

8) Memorization ideas

>Hi, I have a class of 15. I teach my kids a memory verse that summarises
>day's lesson. I am just wondering how best I can make them memorise these

At our church we use, music to help the children memorize their
scripture.  Two wonderful resources are Seeds of Courage and Seeds of
Faith.  Each CD has 12 comtemporary songs that correspond to the theme.  I
generally choose one from the CD and have it playing when the children
arrive.  Even the non-readers in my class can memorize the scripture in a
week.  We usually keep the same memory verse for four weeks.  For example,
we finished a unit on Daniel and our verse was Psalm 46:1-2 God is our
refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will
not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart
of the sea.  The children had 4 weeks to memorize it.

Also we play lots of games, like Character hats, in which the children
recite the verse like the person who wears that hat.  For example, a
miltary helmet makes the children recite like a soldier or a pirate hat
like a pirate.  They love this!!!  Another game I play is Sparkle.  We all
sit in a circle and go around it, each child say the next word in the
verse.  At the end of the verse, we all say sparkle, and the child whose
turn it is must say the entire verse.

Don't give up trying to memorize scriptures. It is so important!!!

God Bless, Nicole

--from SSTN: I absolutely LOVE the hats idea! Very creative!

10) Teacher Training Manual

I have developed a teacher training manual that I am willing to share with
anyone subscribed to this newsletter.  The training manual is designed to
be taught from one person to another.  Subjects included in the manual
are:  Proposed training sessions, Welcome message to new teachers and
assistants,  Learning Styles, Age Characteristics and teaching methods,
Presentation Tips, Creating Lesson Plans, Teaching Styles and Classroom
Management.  A friend of mine has graciously volunteered to host this
manual on their web site free of charge.  You can find it at
http://applesoranges.us/gordon/.  It is posted as web pages and as a
Microsoft Word document.  If you have the ability to read it as a Word
document, I would suggest doing so.  The Word document is cleaner than the
web page version (conversion issues).  Plus the Word document has
hyperlinks that will make navigation easier for the user.  I hope you will
find this document useful in your ministries.

This web site may eventually expand to include object lessons, lesson
plans, teacher supports and encouragement, and links to websites that are
helpful for Christian Educators.  This expansion will depend on time and
finances.

Take care everyone,
Connie G.
