USA Patriotic Catcher

With the "USA Patriotic Catcher" kids will learn the answers to eight
basic USA citizenship questions such as, "Why did the Pilgrims come to
America?"; What is the US Constitution?, and "What does the First
Amendment guarantee?". A great activity for July 4th!
Kids can make it and take it home!

2) Noah's Ark for ages 2-3

>I would like some help with finding things needed to do a summer long
>Noah's Ark segment with 2 and 3 year olds.  I plan to "build" the ark
>cardboard boxes and stock it with the childrens stuffed animals and some

I did an lesson for our 3-8yr olds and they seemed to enjoy it...my son
drew 4 pictures which I copied and they were in stages....of the building,
gathering etc....the kids colored cut and then placed in order the patern
of events....then we glued them to construction paper and made covers for
our Noah's ark book...and I stapled the pages together......make sure if
you do something like this you make the construction paper a little larger
than the picture size..(voice of experience here. ...your picture will be
stapled together not making a nice book)

3) Fiery Furnace?

I am looking for any ideas for visual aides for the story on the Fiery
Furnace.  I work with 4, 5, and 6 year olds, so they need something to
look at, since a gold smelter is not an everyday type of item.  Anyone
have any idea how large the furnace was, or what it could be compared to
size-wise?  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Elizabeth

4) Keeping Children's Interest?

Teaching children between the ages of 10 - 13 years is a challenge
especially getting them to study a lesson at home. Do you have any ideas
in this area that I can use to get them to study and get more involved in
class discussion.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you and God bless.
Eerdin.

5) Teaching Boys?

I would like your advice on how to approach and talk with boys, when we
start hear them talking about s -e- x, and girls relations., or what to do
when I open my son's email and found his school friend sending him bad s
-e -x poem...????...the boys ages is between 8--12 years old...and the
boys are christians, but they have school friend's influence...

We are a christian family, and I would like to have a Godly advice on this
matter..
Thanks/RFB

--from SSTN: this was happening to my son, however the "poems" were coming
from a girl. I emailed the girl and told her this was inappropriate. I
also asked her if her mother knew she was sending out this kind of email.
As a result she apologized and never sent another one like it. Also, check
out the Christian Education section of the Bookstore, there are some great
resources on this topic: http://www.christiancrafters.com/bookstore.html

6) Slime for pouring

If you are wanting to use the slime to pour over someone's head you can
use one or all of the following recipes.
1st - Use pudding mix and color it with green food coloring.
2nd - Use  powdered sugar, water and green food coloring. Mix all
ingredients until you get the desired cosistency. Any color food coloring
may be used.

Both of these recipes are environment friendly and they both work. Also,
they are both made at a seasonable price. I have used them and the kids
love them.
3rd - Something else I have tried is making instant mashed potatoes (minus
the milk and butter) You just use the instant potatoes and water and food
coloring. We made this concoction last summer and had a green mashed
potato food fight outside. We did this during our VBS Kickoff. The kids
absolutely loved it. So did I. Needless to say the kids are looking
forward to our vbs kickoff again this year because we are doing the same
type of slimy, gooey outdoor activities. Hope you are able to use this.
God Bless,
Karla from Kentucky

7) End of Year Program

For a few years now our children are taught to give rather than receive.
Children are taken to Children's Homes or Orphanages which are run by the
church to give their small gifts to the children there at the end of the
year.  A  picnic at the park on the way back will end the day out.    Last
year we invited a Deaf and Dumb School children to join us on a Saturday
morning fellowship and our Sunday School provided lunch for all.  Our
children in this way are taught to appreciate, love and accept  all other
children especially those who are less fortunate than them.  God Bless.

projects and decorations. They have take alot of the grunt work and burned
through it! Awesome!! I would like to give them a small gift to show my
appreciation that goes along with the theme. Any ideas???

Thanks!

9) Clarifying "New Recruits"

I guess I need to explain a little more.  We are
doing a VBS that is written by members of the church.
The people that are volunteer are themselves
expressing concern about their ablilites to serve as
teachers.  So what I was really asking for was ways to
involve them and let them get "their feet wet"  maybe
then they would feel more confident to serve God.  I
myself began to teach Sunday School when I was just a
teen and I know teaching can help a person grow in
faith.  So let me restate my question since my first
was apparently badly worded.  What are some ways that
I can use volunteers, who happen to be new Christians,
to help with VBS since they do not feel that they are
ready to be teachers?  I really want to support them
in their growth and feel that this can be a very good
growing experience.

God Bless
Mollie Palmer

--from SSTN: allow them to be helpers or team captains over small groups
of children. This allows them to be involved but not as the teacher. Meet
with them beforehand to explain their responsibilities, ie. overseeing
small groups of children by showing Jesus' love, maintaining order,
passing out supplies, encouraging kids to participate, leading groups to
the next activity, etc.

10) Mission Possible VBS?

We are doing Child Evangelism's "Mission Possible" VBS this year any
creative sugestions for crafts? It is a Spy, Colors of Christ theme? Any
help would be great! Thanks

11) Luring Youth Back

>Every Sunday Night, for some reason, we do not get a huge turn out back on
>Sunday Nights for Youth Night, and I was wondering. Does anyone have any
>suggestions on how to lure youth back to church on Sunday Nights.

Hi,
I really think the first thing you need to do is work out what makes these
kids tick. What are they interested in, what do they not like etc. and
then structure your program around these things. I have found Bible drills are
great for those kids that are really into the Christian life and finding
out stuff, but doesn't suit too many others. Perhaps you could get some
really interesting speakers (from the teens point of view) to come and
really advertise in all the local schools. Put on some food and half the
local population will come including the parents. I have always found that
if the kids really want to come they will organise it with the parents.

--from SSTN: if there's a local Christian rock or praise band nearby,
invite them to your church for a once-a-month Youth Praise night. You
could even join forces with other local churches to meet as one large
gathering at a park or beach.

12) Slimier Slime

The children also enjoys playing with a mixture of maizina (corn flour)
and water.  The more water you throw in, the slimier it gets.  It is much
cheaper and easy to make by anyone.   Food colourants tends to stain the
clothes.  Hope this works for you.

God Bless
