1) Armor of God recyclables

I would like to respond to the Armor of God recyclables notes from SSTN #36.

If those children can remember verses about each piece of armor they make and put on, they truly have learned a valuable lesson they should not soon forget. I think many of them will remember what they learned for a lifetime, and that in Christ is a very long time indeed.

Helmet of Salvation: I hope for salvation in Jesus, for we are saved by hope.
God is the savior of all men, especially those that believe.
Sword of the Spirit: It's living, quick and powerful, ever discerning, always able to discover.
Breastplate of Righteousness: Putting on that which is right protects the heart. Righteousness is always the heart of the matter.

Those are just a few ideas.

2) Aged Bible Lessons?

I appreciate all what you are doing and God bless you so much. I intend to make our local church to be active in studying the word of God, but the problem we don't have bible lessons. We have divided bible study into classes
1. Age 0-10 yrs
2. Age 11-15 yrs
3. Age 16-30 yrs mostly unmarried
4. Adult class, mostly married people

Please assist me to get bible lessons for the classes!

--from SSTN: we can provide lessons. But first, please consider the extreme emotional, intellectual and spiritual differences between a person at age one to age ten or 16 to 30. Therefore, if at all possible, I would strongly suggest that you divide your ages differently than you already have. For example: 0-4 yrs.; 5-12; 13-17; 18-24 and 25+. Ideally, even these ages could be separated, but I'm aware that this isn't always possible.

For children 0-4 years, check out "Pray and Play Bible" (vol.1 and 2). You can find both in our affiliate bookstore by typing the titles into the search box at:

For K-5th grade, look at our Bible-4-Life section at:

For teen ministry look in our affiliate bookstore (left side of page) at:

And for your Adult ministry check out any of the "Lifechange Lessons" in our affiliate bookstore.
Type "Lifechange Lessons Navpress" into the search box to locate them at:

Beyond these suggestions, you can also check into the publisher associated with your denomination.

3) Starting a Children's Ministry?

Hi My Name is Sandra

I fellowship at the AFM City Church in Cape Town and would like ideas on how to start a children's ministry and what to teach kids ranging from 3-12yrs old.

4) Feeling useless?

The next time you feel like GOD can't use you, just remember...

Noah was a drunk
Abraham was too old
Isaac was a daydreamer
Jacob was a liar
Leah was ugly
Joseph was abused
Moses had a stuttering problem
Gideon was afraid
Samson had long hair and was a womanizer
Rahab was a prostitute
Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
David had an affair and was a murderer
Elijah was suicidal
Isaiah preached naked
Jonah ran from God
Naomi was a widow
Job went bankrupt
Peter denied Christ
The Disciples fell asleep while praying
Martha worried about everything
The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once
Zacchaeus was too small
Paul was too religious
Timothy had an ulcer...
Lazarus was dead!

Now, no more excuses! God can use you to your full potential...Besides you aren't the message,
you are just the messenger. And one more thing...Share this with a friend or two...
In the Circle of God's love, God's waiting to use your full potential.

5) Liquid Gospel Object Lesson

hi, i don't have the experiment using oil and vinegar but a simple experiment is to use water, bleach and red food coloring to talk about sin and how Jesus came to wash away our sins (the bleach would wash out the red which represents sin. good luck.
p.s. you can probably google: "bible lesson and science" to find exactly what you're looking for.

God's joy,

6) Armor of God recyclables

We just finished a rotation on the Armor of God. We made one piece of armor each week.
The helmet was a plastic "party" construction hat with the bill cut off, covered in aluminum foil and decorated with foam shapes, colored electrical tape, etc.
The shoes were 2 pieces of cardboard per foot, duct tape across the top and secured between the 2 pieces of cardboard and then more duct tape to secure the 2 pieces together.
The breastplate was traced onto butcher paper for the front and back and duct tape at the shoulders, then decorated with foam stickers, etc.
The belt was made out of 2-2 1/2 inch wired ribbon, a sticker that said "truth" and decorated with stickers, etc.
The sword was made from paint stir sticks and large popsicle sticks added about 3 inches from the bottom of the stir stick at a right angle to make the handle, then covered the "blade" with aluminum foil.
The shield was aluminum pizza pans. We made a handle on the back out of duct tape and decorated the front with electrical tape, etc.
We used a lot of aluminum foil (fairly inexpensive), colored electrical tape (purchased online, we use it for a lot of decorating of crafts, the kids love it). foam stickers and sharpie markers.
We found a song with actions set to the Macarena. The kids performed for the congregation. They absolutely loved making all the pieces and the song was lots of fun.
Anyone wanting more info or if my explanations aren't clear, can email me at for more info. I may even be able to send some pics.

7) Open-ended Teaching Techniques?

Would you share your open-ended teaching techniques with the network? (Open-ended ideas are ideas which can be adapted to different situations and lesson plans. For example: one open-ended Bible memory technique that can be applied to learning multiple Bible verses is to draw a rebus puzzle. A rebus is a representation of words or syllables using pictures of objects or by using symbols whose names resemble the intended words or syllables in sound.) Another open-ended technique for Bible memory is to use sign language or hand motions to coordinate with the words in your memory verse.

If enough of these kinds of open-ended ideas are shared, I will devote a section in the main website for them.
