<<As many of you know, AbbaGail is probably the youngest contributor to this newsletter. God has granted her wisdom far beyond her years as a 16 yr. old teenager! I recently asked her the following question, "What circumstances do you attribute your God given gift of wisdom and giving?"

I found her response so challenging that I asked her if I could share it with the network. Here is what she wrote:

Well I believe my dad, the one who died five years ago, set a huge
example to me of loving and giving to someone who isn't your own "blood".
What I mean by that is he was actually my step father, but I NEVER ever
thought of him as that or called him that, He was just "DaddyDon". He
didn't care if I wasn't his OWN, he loved me and provided for me just
like a real dad would. He gave to EVERYONE! He would help anyone he
could, and his whole motive was doing it as unto the Lord. My mom also
loves to give. Those are two reasons. AND, I have been taught about "WHO
God is" and one of those things God is, is a giver.... He gave up His
whole life, shouldn't we, too, give??

Since we have had a lot of deaths in our family, that has made me very sensitive now
to people's SOULS and where they are going to spend eternity. Everywhere I go I see them as a soul.... instead of a nice person, a mean person, and bad person etc.
Jesus made them, too, and it is our job to reach out to them with the Gospel.

Greetings in the matchless name of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. I found your web page to be exciting and very informative. I was wondering if you are familiar with any web pages that specializes in games for preschoolers to reinforce Sunday School lessons. I currently teach 4 year-olds and I average 25-32 preschoolers a week so the games would have to be centered around a game that can be played by a large group.

I have to teach a lesson Sunday (a review of the last 4 lessons) and I'm using Tic-Tac-Toe, but I'm doing it a little different than the one you have on your web pages. Any suggestions for future links or web pages would be greatly appreciated.

EASTER STORY COOKIES
To be made the evening before Easter
You need: 1c. whole pecans, 1 tsp. vinegar, 3 egg whites, pinch salt, 1c. sugar, zipper baggie, wooden spoon, tape, Bible

Preheat oven to 300 (this is important--don't wait til you're half done with the recipe)

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink.
Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin.
Read Luke 23:27.

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1c. sugar.

Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him.
Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.
Read Isa.1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matt. 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the
oven OFF.

Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt. 27:65-66.

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.
Read John 16:20 and 22.
On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matt. 28:1-9

I have found a great group of Sunday School lessons, so I want to pass it on. My husband was considering teaching the 9-11 year old kids, (mostly boys) and I was trying to think of a plan that would be easy for his first effort, but that the kids would really enjoy. Being a home school mom of 11 years, I see a lot of curriculum ideas. One that I stumbled onto would be really great for Sunday School. I was teaching my 11 year old son anatomy with a book called,"The Body Book" published by Scholastic. It's a hands on, reproducible book in which the children actually create out of paper the different parts of the human body. My son has enjoyed it so much that I have adapted it for Sunday School use. For example, one week we made the skeleton and discuss (what else) the dry bones story in Ezekiel and any other scriptures verses or stories pertaining to bones or graves etc.... (the Pharisees "white washed tombs")

My son loved making the human eye; he created each layer with paper and plastic wrap. They also make the ear, well, I could go on......but I can't brag enough on this book! If nothing else, they learn to appreciate the wonder of the creation of the body!

We used card stock weight paper, you just copy the body parts on a copy machine for each child. Using different colors is fun, too. You can do them occasionally, or make a whole SS series of lessons with it. This is especially nice for the 9-12 age group. We plan to use it this spring and summer.

I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions for turning country/pop songs into praise worship songs for our youth group. Our youth group loves singing but not the contemporary hymns. Our Youth Pastor has done an awesome job of getting our youth involved in our Sunday night worship by allowing them to lead the singing portion and using their "praise"songs. One example is this new song by Jo Dee Messina (country) called "Because You Love Me" Its a beautiful song to start with but when you change the meaning from human love to love of our God and Savior.......it will bring tears to your eyes and make you just want to hold your arms up to God. Can anyone else think of any other songs that could be used in the same manner ?
