1) Medical theme VBS ?

Hello,
Our church has decided to do a Medical theme this year for our VBS
program.  The kids will dress as doctors & nurses and we will talk about
having a healthy spiritual body, heart check ups, free radicals, etc.  We
usually have between 150 to 200 kids and do a big drama at the end which
the parents are invited to attend.  We need songs, skits, costume, outdoor
activity and food ideas if you have any.  Also does anyone have or know of
any VBS material that would help us with this theme?
You may E-mail me back at sharonvanwyk@hotmail.com

Also, thank you for this ministry!  It has been a great resource!
Your fellow servant in Christ,
Sharon

--from SSTN: please remember if anyone responds directly, the other
teachers in the network will not benefit from your knowledge.

2) Beware...Satan's territory

Aylean,
before you start on what sounds like a wonderful mission project of
reaching out to people in an apartment building, please have in place a
plan on what to do for certain situations.  My church has a food bank and
recently one of the recipients was in our bathroom shooting up drugs! The
workers in our food bank are mostly elderly ladies, so this called for a
lot of training and planning for "what ifs" for the future.     You are
entering Satan's territory, so be prepared!
God bless your efforts, Karen

3) Outreach Ministry

Wow to be able to use the rooms is a great blessing.  our church used the
club house for a weekly club for the children.  THere was the Bible story,
coloring and crafts and a make and take lesson page that was directly from
the story.  AND a Bible verse to memorize with a prizxe for memorizing the
verse.  We made a contest to keep the children interested in coming and
the rewards were Bibles and coupons for ice cream and to the local
Christian book store for a movie rental.  It was well received.  Gloria

4) Son Harvest County Fair?

I am going to use the 2003 Gospel Light Son Harvest County Fair theme this
year.  If anyone has any decorating ideas or skit ideas, please let me
know. Does anybody have any leftover Son Harvest County Fair director's
book or skits that they could loan/sell me?  I have checked the archives
and didn't find too much.  Thanks, Sherri in Indiana.

5) Beginning Rotation Sunday School?

Dear Sarah ,
My church Sunday school is foundering . WE have
classes with one or two children in each . We
desparately want to bring in new children and have
decided to try rotation plan SS. We need a lesson plan
for our first four weeks with games ,snacks and songs
that relate so that we can give it a go . We would
normally be studying the new church at this time of
year . That is with Peter and Paul , their travels and
the formation of the early Christian church. If any of
the sstn. readers have something that worked well at
their SS. I would so appreciate hearing from them . I
know that we will be able to put our own together soon
, but I really think we need a plan to go by the first
time . Also any things to avoid in setting up would be
a help . Thanks in advance for any help you can give .
God bless you Sarah at this scary time , our prayers
are with you .

--from SSTN: Check out any of the hands-on Bible lesson series.
They are perfect for a rotation plan:

7) Thank You Gifts?

I am the VBS Dir. this year and I would love to start making small
thank-you gifts for my workers, but I can not find anything that will work
at does not cost to much or takes to much time, any ideas, we have men,
woman, and teenagers, any idea would be great. debbie in ks

--from SSTN: knowing the VBS theme would help our creative juices. ;o)

8) Overwhelmed with Used Replies

I posted a message regarding some used material. I have been overwhelmed
with replies. I truly see that there is a need for more of us to give our
materials to others. This has opened my eyes and  I intend to share all of
these requests with my church. I think our ladies will continue to make
this a project to send our materials to those who need it. Thank you so
much for this outlet to share. You are such a blessing to me and others.

9) Agreeing in Prayer

To Barbie: I agree with you in prayer over your daughter. Give her over to
God and allow Him to work in her. I, too, had a rebellious daughter, left
for nearly two years, and she just asked to move back home. Wait on God.

10) Sunday School curriculum

I don't recall seeing a response to a previous posting about
previously-used Sunday School materials and the need for a Scope and
Sequence.  One of the first decisions that my children's council made when
selecting materials was that we had such a framework in place.  We had
used traditional materials from our church publisher for many years, but
when we switched to the Rotation model, we still needed a systematic way
of teaching concepts of the Bible.  We chose a company who had taken all
the worry out of the process; we know that at the end of six years, all
the children who have attended Sunday School, even irregularly, will have
been exposed to a well-balanced presentation of the Bible.  I am fortunate
to have a supportive church that can budget money for materials.  If I
didn't, however, I would take the time to sit down with a curriculum
committee and formulate a scope and sequence and then fit second-hand
materials into it.  www.rotation.org has examples of ways that churches
have devised their own systems.

11) Need Used Materials

Carol,
I would love to have them.  The project that I mentioned earlier regarding
the apartment building of single parents' children.  This would be a
blessing in continuing this ministry.  We are now gathering christian
videos to show the children this month; and planning to do skits for the
summer.  I was told this is a good tool in teaching children through
skits.  If you will consider sending your material to me, I would be
grateful!
