2) Teacher longevity

Let them do it for as long as they feel effective and that this is what
the Lord is calling them to. My husband and I having been teaching the
same group of kids since our now Grade 6 daughter was in Grade 1, and it's
been good for everyone. Some children it takes longer than a year to get
to know. Some children are quite difficult for a number of years, and then
it works out, which is very satisfying to finally see. It's a real
blessing for the teacher to see growth and maturing in the children over a
period of years, and it's an anchor of stability for the child to know
he's going to see the same face every Sunday. We're getting ready to leave
SS in June because we're tired now. I think it's great for everyone to
have teachers stay for as long as they feel called. -- Belva from Montreal

3) Believer song!
Wow! What a great idea! The lyrics are great! We're going to use this
as the closing song on Children's Sunday. My husband even knows how to
play this on the guitar..finally a way to get him involved in our church

4) Easter Balloon Idea
Dear Sarah: Don't know if anyone would like to do this, but for Easter one
year, I purchased balloons and filled them with helium, I gave each person
in the SS class a balloon and we went outside, using a tape player I
played Christ the Lord is Risen Today and just before the end of the last
verse we all let our balloons go, we thought that was a neat thing to do.

W.W.J.S.? Gospel Catchers
There's something much worse than cooties...it's called sin! Now kids can
make Gospel Catchers rather than Cootie Catchers! A fun and innovative way
for kids to learn to share their faith with their friends! Includes 4

5) Easter Scene
Someone asked what their class could do for Easter that they hadn't done
before. One year I had my class make up three scenes, palm Sunday, the
last supper and the crucifixion, using clothespins dressed as the people.
We also made miniature items out of various stuff for the furnishings. Of
course we left the crosses empty for Easter. It was a lot of fun and we
displayed the scenes on a table where everyone could see them. It gives
the children a change to use their creativity. Thought I would suggest it.

6) Encouragement to teachers
For all of you teachers that handle many ages and wonder if the content of
your messages reaches them, here's a story:
My three year old son's teacher was out sick, so his only class option was
to sit in with the 1-2nd graders. This teacher complained that he
shouldn't be there because he was too young to learn anything. But I
thought it would be worse in the adult class with me, so I sat down with
them and he stayed with him on my lap for the remainder of class.
Later in the week at home, he came running inside from the back yard with
his hands over his head, shouting, "I got one!" He opened his brother's
tree frog cage and plopped in a tiny one. I knew it was only fair to keep
one for him too, so I just said, "Uh, okay, what are you gonna call it?"
And he triumphantly answered, "David! Little David!" I became pleased as
I realized that his Sunday School lesson had been the story of David and
Goliath!!
Cheer up teachers: your messages are being inscribed on their little
hearts one word at a time.

7) Easter Ideas
For both of these they could make Resurrection Baskets. Using the same
kind of idea as the Resurrection Eggs, you just use objects that represent
the events that happened during that final week. I've used pictures of
donkeys, for smaller children, pictures of nails, for the older one use
the nails, communion cups and bread, black cloth for the dark night, terry
cloth for washing feet,stones that covered the grave, toothpicks made into
crosses, pennies for the betrayal, little scrolls, cotton balls, white
strips of cloth with perfume on them, and there are many more ideas. Hope
this will help.

8) Basket Ideas
Hi there:
We use those green strawberry baskets to make hot air balloons. Just tape
or fasten four straws - one inside each corner - of the basket. Blow up a
regular balloon and fasten it with tape between (near the top) of the four
straws. Don't be shy to use a big balloon as this will angle the straws
outward nicely, giving a nice shape. Put little plastic people, stuffed
animals, Bible verses, candies or whatever into the baskets. They are
fairly easy for kids to make, inexpensive and so cute!

9) A word of encouragement
I just read the word of encouragement and it reminded me of an incident
that happened to my wife and me. We lead a junior church of approximately
30 students ranging in age from 4 to 11 (yes this is a big group). In one
of our lessons I talked about David and Goliath. After that lesson one of
my 5 year olds went home and told their parents it is alright to beat up
kids that were bigger than you. Fortunately the parents knew me and that
I would not teach such a thing. They investigated what we learned and
helped him to better understand it. Children pick up on details and then
spin off them. A working relationship between you and parents go a long
way to helping the children get the most out of what you teach and just
the time you think they are not listening, they are listening the most!
What an awesome responsibility to teach these young children.

10) Ten Commandments?
I LOVE your site. It is wonderful! I am a Sunday School Teacher for
3,4,& 5 yr olds. I am also in charge of VBS. The theme this year is "The
Ten Commandments". I need to make two crafts for each law. I also need
games and snacks to go with each one. I have some ideas, but I like to
get other people's ideas. Maybe you could send this out to your
subscribers. Even if you don't want to give me ideas, then maybe you
could give me your
perceptions of each law, so that I can better
illustrate for the kids. They are aged 3-12 and of course, in separate
classes. thank you for your help. God bless you.

11) 12 disciples crafts?
We are getting prepared to study the 12 disciples I need craft ideas and
any help we are planning a group learning and fun time on each disciple as
we learn them ages from 4yrs -high School please help...Thanks for all the

12) South African Ministry
As a person that has been involved with street ministry and in Sunday
School for over eighteen years ,I fully understand the needs of teachers
as well as the children.
I head up an organisation called Unlimited Hope Ministries in South
Africa.This is part of a structure with the main branch in The U S A as
well as branches in Zimbabwe,Philippines and Spain.
