1) Mothers daughter banquet

From my own personal experience...I have been to a Tea party themed one
where the table were decorated like an old victoria style home and we had
tea sandiches, punch, and tea. The ladies all came in dresses with hats
and gloves.
We have also had a 'global' themed one where each table was decorated
with crafts and decoratios from different countries. people were
encourages to wear clothes from other countries if they had them as well.
We all shared experience from our travels.
And my fave...'beautiful baby theme' where baby pics of all present were
shown. and stories of how it was in the 'old days' were shared by the now
grandmothers and great grandmothers.
We had door prizes for the oldest mother....youngest mother...most
generations present...most children etc as well.
Whatever the theme you chose...I am sure a great time will be had by all
and 'pearls of wisdom' will be passed on.

2) Hidden Messages ... Hospitalized child
> any new ideas on ways to help a little boy adjust to a hospital stay.

Send hidden messages to the boy. You will need small mirrors,
approximately 3" in diamenter. For each word in your message you will need
one mirror (choose words with few letters). For example, If your message
is "Get Well" you'll need two small mirrors. To write your hidden message,
place mirrors over hot steam or blow on them until they are steamed up.
Write one of the words on the mirror using your finger. Do this with each
mirror until all the words are written on one. Allow the mirrors to dry.
Place in a baggie with a pencil.
On a piece of paper or card write something like the following:
"Inside this baggie is a hidden message just for you. To reveal your
hidden message blow on each mirror to see the hidden word, then write it
down. Once you have all the words written down, place them in the correct
order to reveal the message we are sending you!"
(Staple the paper to the outside of the baggie and send it to the sick
boy.)
You could make this a class project with each child in class writing one
word or symbol (smiley face, cross, heart, etc.) on a mirror to form one
entire message. Just keep the words short or the symbols simple shapes!

3) Hospitalized child
I have a couple of ideas you might be able to use. These are all ideas I
have used with my own ADD/ADHD daughter and son when we are traveling for
hours and hours in the car. I know they work for me, and hope they will
work for them.
Finger paint! lol Not the way you think. Put finger paint, (I made my
own, but store bought would work of course) into a freezer zip lock bag.
Put two colors together that will mix like blue and yellow in one bag will
end up green after lots of playing. Red and Yellow in a bag will become
Orange after lots of play. Get most of the air out of the bag and zip
shut. Put some duct tape over the zip part to keep it safely in the bag.
When your little guy has it on the tray he can push it around with his
fingers and make designs, words and whatever else he can think of.
Books on tape, hear the beep and turn the page type of books. He may not
like to read, but you would be amazed at how entranced they become looking
at the pictures and listening to the story. You could make these yourself
by reading whatever story you might read to your Sunday school group, then
ring a bell or just say "beep" at the right part.
Don't forget music. Any songs that you sing in class you can tape the
class singing, I am sure they have a personal tape player that he can
listen and sing along with.
How about a cookie sheet and some cool magnets. (I made car, tree, truck
and house magnets from toy catalog pictures and sticky back magnet sheets,
but you could buy them as well.) This way his car, rocket, or animals can
go on adventures and you don't have to worry about them falling all over
the place. You could also build puzzles and put magnet strips on the
back, he could build these on the cookie sheet too. No worry about parts
lost in the bed or on the floor. All the mixed up pieces in the corner of
the cookie sheet. Slide them one at a time to the middle as you build the
puzzle. Works great!
Here is another idea that might help him feel connected to the class.
Hopefully he will be on the mend and heading back to class this year.
This will help him feel as if he never left.
You could get permission from the parents of your Sunday school class and
video tape your session. Run your class as if he were there, attendance
call his name and have the camera person shake up and down "yes, here".
When you ask questions you could let him answer by listening and looking
at the camera. Then saying "your right!" giving the answer back to him
say "is the correct answer! Good job!" He will most likely watch it over
and over! Make sure to keep the class connected to him as well by having
a picture and talking about him every week.

4) Hospitalized child
Another thing you could do is see if he has access to a tape/CD player -
if he doesn't like to read he could still listen to stories (Bible and
otherwise). Also you could tape a special message for him. If the
hospital he's at doesn't provide TV maybe your Sunday school class help
to pay for the rental of one. Also even kids that don't like to read may
like looking at books. Many boys like the non-fiction books (like
insects, vehicles, science etc). Also what about Magna-doodle and etch-a
sketch? I really think you are doing a wonderful thing for him.

5) Forgiveness game
I don't know where I heard of this game, maybe on this newsletter, but my
SS kids really seemed to get something out of it.
We played Simon Says. Instead of somebody getting out, I put a mark on
them. Like if I said raise your hand, but didn't say Simon Says first, I
would put a mark on their hand. When everybody got a mark, I asked them
to
confess to me what they did wrong in the game to get a mark. After they
confessed I wiped it clean.
I told them that's kind of how Jesus is. If we confess to Him what we've
done wrong, He will wipe it clean. I would love to find more games like
this if anybody knows any.

6) Have Lava Island Crafts

7) Hospitalized child
As a nurse who cares for children with cancer, I am very familiar with
long
hospital stays for "our kids". I totally agree with sending cards as
often
as possible, it is a great feeling to get mail. Another way to lift his
spirits and let him know he isn't forgotten is to video tape your SS kids
as they give short greetings to him. Some of the kids will really ham it
up and make for an interesting video. You can coach the kids in advance
to
think of something they miss about him or like about him. If they can't
think of anything, encourage them to give an energetic get well soon, etc.
There also may be some children in your SS who have a large collection of
Christian videos (veggietales, BibleMan) that they would be willing to
loan.
Just make sure they are well marked when taken to the hospital. A
removable sticker with the hospitalized child's name is probably the
easiest, non-permanent way.

8) Hospitalized child
When I was 6 years old I was in the hospital for a month and home for a
year. It can be miserable but some things I enjoyed were jigsaw
puzzles and funny books. One family from my church sent me a 'week of
gifts' and labeled them so I had a different gift to open every day.
(30 years later and I still remember that and even have one of the
gifts yet). One thing we did in Sunday School was had the children
decorate pillow cases - when someone is sick in bed we give them a
pillow case so that they will remember that someone is thinking about
them while they are sick. (Just make sure that you use a fabric marker
that won't come off on their face!).
Today we have digital everything - maybe give him a portable DVD player
and give him dvd's to watch - if someone in the church has a video
camera you can even make him a video - I know he would love to see his
friends - even if it is just on video. Maybe in an mp3 player and put
some of his favorite Christian music on it.
Will be praying for him!

9) Hospitalized child
June: An ADHD kid might enjoy stories read on cassette tape in addition
to videos. You can buy some--but more fun (and cheaper) would be to read
some on cassette yourself, or record the rest of your class reading
stories. You can also have the class make up a story for him by having
each student add a sentence or two--you'll probably wind up with some
very silly stories! (You can let the kids add sound effects in the
background, too.) Another project the class could have fun with is
recording a "radio program" on cassette. Kids can make up commercials,
news reports, and sing songs. Again--this tends to get silly, which can
make for fun listening. As a side bonus--the kids making the tape will
probably have a lot of fun too. This fella is really blessed to have you
for his teacher!

10) Prayer Blanket ... child in hospital
I am responding with an idea for a child in the hospital. I bought a large
piece of fleece with a fun pattern (tie dyed) and fringed the edges with
1/2 inch strips. All the children at church gathered and prayed for the
hospitalized child specifically, and tied a knot in the fringe as they
prayed. We sent the blanket to the hospital with a large card signed by
all the pray-ers! The child will rest assured he is covered in prayer! I
keep the fleece all cut and ready to go, so when we get the word that a
child is going to the hospital we can get them covered ASAP!

11) Child in hospital
When my child was in the hospital and had to have blood drawn as well as
many shots, I made a booklet for her and gave her stickers to put in every
time she had to endure the pain. Although she didn't look forward to
having the shots or blood drawn, it did make it bearable for her and I
promised her when the book was full, she could exchange it for a special
prize. I tried to estimate how many days she would be in the hospital and
made the book accordingly.

12) Let's Pray
Hi I am Barbara I come in agreement with everyone here to join in prayer
for our sister in Christ. I believe the healing has allready been done in
Jesus name. Now I ask for prayer for my 17 year old who has run away from
home. Yes she has been taught the word of GOD but she is in
being rebellious. I trust the GOD I worship and I know with prayer he
will bring her home. Please join me in prayer also. Where two or more
come in prayer our Lord will be there. Lets pray.
