3) Cow, sheep, and camel?

Dear Sarah and friends,
For this coming Christmas, we are planning to perform the Nativity play
with kids from 5 to 15 and some adults. It is my first time to organize
this and I don't have so much means to do it as I would wish. But still I
want to try. One problem is with representing the animals. I need a cow,
sheep and camel. Would you have any suggestion on how we could play these?
(The church we are using doesn’t allow us to bring in real animals).
Also, if any of you has already an experience with the Nativity play, it
would be great to know how you managed with the backgrounds or backdrops.
Each scene needs a different setting.
It is my first time, so any help and advise will be greatly appreciated.
Sarah, thank you for your ministry through the internet. I am very much
blessed as I am new in the children work, it brings me a lot of help and
inspiration. In my context, I can apply 5 % of all that is shared because
we are in a different country and setting, but to see what can be done is
exciting and brings me hope.
God bless,
Lydia Canlas/Netherlands

5) Pastor Appreciation Sunday

>>I need some ideas for Pastor Appreciation Sunday, we are having it on

We just had our Pastor Appreciation Sunday on the 21 so, I have a lot of
ideas for you.

1. We had the confirmation students do a skit with one person the pastor.
It was called "the day in the life of a pastor"We did this in place of the
children's talk in front of the congregation. I have attached the skit I
wrote you may want to modify to your pastor.
2. have the little kids make a book titled "what I think my pastor does"
you will be surprised at the funny things they say.
3. make a t-shirt with handprints of the Sunday school kids around the
saying "pastors little helpers" have him/her wear it to church that day.
4. Have some one sing a song and dedicate it to him.
5. give him a painting or sketch of the church from the congregation
6. make a bulletin board of pictures of the pastor. I wrote 2,4, 6,8 who
do we appreciate on it.
7. Also check the archives at the sstn as I found a neat idea for a
children's talk and we did it with my Sunday school class.

6) A Day in the Life of a Pastor Skit

Introduction: Good Morning! As you may know October is Pastor appreciation
month. A month to say thank-you for all the hard work that our Pastor
does.
Today we dedicate this skit to Pastor Carlson. Please watch the kids and
see what we believe happens in the day of a Pastor.

Scene 1: In this first scene you will see a couple getting marriage
counseling before their big day. A pastors counseling doesn’t stop here.
He counsels many other people with all kinds of problems.
Scene 2: In the second scene you will see him visiting a sick person in
the hospital. He also visits newborns and their mothers, and people who
cannot make it to church for various reasons.
Scene 3: Next you will see him performing the wedding of the couple he
counseled. I wonder if they all survive his counseling?
Scene 4: In this scene you will see him comforting a family after they
have lost a loved one and helping them plan the funeral.
Scene 5: Oh Look! Here is the lovely couple getting their baby baptized.
Wouldn’t that be funny if the baby spit up all over the pastor?
Scene 6: A Pastor also puts in many hours at various meetings and serving
on committees. “Does this guy ever get a moment to himself?
Scene 7; You will often find the pastor at his desk writing and
researching his sermon. Then he gets to perform it on Sunday to all of us.
Scene 8; The pastor spends much of the time leading a bible study which
will lead people in their walk with God and help them to grow in their
love for Jesus Christ.
Scene 9; Last but not least you will see the pastor helping out with the
youth group giving spiritual guidance and playing their favorite game of
“Hide-N-Seek.

7) Pastor appreciation verses

Use a verse about comfort for the teddy bear. Don't know what kind of
"night cap" you are referring to -- but a hat type could use the helmet of
salvation, or a scripture about protecting the mind, etc.

The robe - lots of scriptures about robes, coverings, or holiness. If you
have PC study bible you can do a search or those words, If not use a
concordance. I would also use a parallel Bible, since some scriptures
"fit" better (are easier to understand) in other translations.

8) Pastor appreciation verses

> I need help with some verses to go along with gifts that our Youth
> Group plans to present to our Pastor. The first gift will be a pair of

Hi Lily -- cool idea.
I am terrible with addresses, but I can give you sentiment and you can
look them up in the concordance. For the robe -- one about being clothed
in righteousness or about taking off the old self and putting on the new.
For the night cap, perhaps God knows how many hairs are upon your head.
For the teddy bear -- I would definitely keep the Teddy bear -- I would
just find a verse dealing with comfort or meeting needs, the teddy bear
reminds us that God cares for us and provides us comfort.
For the tickets maybe the verse "I know the plans I have for you ..." Or
"Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you
rest".
Finally, I would suggest a good nightime Christian reading book -- there
is probably one he's been meaning to get and read -- and use the verse
about renewing your mind.
Dawn
PS -- one thing our church did for the pastor this month, in addition to
a gift, was to provide dinner every night. Most people feel cared for
when you care for those whom they love.

9) Freedom - Unity Pin

Hi Sarah: This is Kellie, the one who designed the unity pin. Thank-you
for putting it on your site. I just bought the commemorative issue of
"Newsweek". On page 51 (right in the centre) is a picture of 2 teachers.
One of them is wearing the freedom pin. I have been thinking for several
days that I should make a whole-whack of unity pins and send them to
someone, some group or place but I don't know where. When I saw this
picture I thought I ask you for any ideas. Or maybe you would know who to
ask. Who would appreciate being reminded that Canada is praying?
Thanks for you help and time
God Bless
Kellie

10) Motivating Kids

Sarah and the person responsible for marching idea to memorize scripture.
What a neat idea. I would love to have any others you have. This will
also protect my children's teeth from all the sugar I've been motivating
them with. (M & M's, etc.) Thanks and God bless you!

11) Christmas Program

>>For our Christmas program last year my little First Graders sang
>>and did the motions to "Do You See What I See?".

One Christmas, we learned the song "The Friendly Beasts" and the children
took turns holding up a stuffed toy that corresponded to the animal
mentioned in the verse, for example, donkey, camel, dove, cow, sheep, etc.

12) Toothpaste Sermon

>Have you ever heard the Children's Sermon that
>involved one child squirting all the toothpaste out of a tube...

This is a lesson from Focus on the Family, from their Family Nights
Toolbox book series through their Heritage Builders Department. It's used
to illustrate Bible verses about the tongue.

--from SSTN: apparently there is more than one version of this. Many of
you wrote in and gave the above resource, as well as the one that is by
Charles Kirkpatrick which is now available in the Sermons section of the
site:

http://www.christiancrafters.com/skits.html

The Family Nights series is available in the Bookstore at
http://www.ChristianCrafters.Com/bookstore.html . Use keywords "Family Nights Tool Chest" (not toolbox) to find it.
