1) Beatitudes--teen ideas?

A great video that even our youngest kids enjoyed and understood was "How to Get Blessed Without Sneezing" DVD

It's done with wacky oversized props, 2 "mime" actors (professional), and laughter. There are 8 separate vignettes. After each one we paused the video to discuss -- I was surprised by how easily the kids understood the concepts being acted out.

Note: on website it says ages 3-7 (WRONG) this is meant for elementary children through adults, but we found everyone (even the 3-7) enjoyed it.

There is a 33 page leader's guide (curriculum) which includes questions for each video segment and additional teaching material. Note: you have to request this when you order video, not sure if there is an additional cost for same.

2) I Pray You Enough

I pray you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.

I pray you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.

I pray you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I pray you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.

I pray you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I pray you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

"My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:19

He IS enough!

3) Song: Share the Love of Jesus

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for your continued help. I wish to offer a song that other teachers might want to use. It is a well known tune that I have changed the words to. The tune is that of the well known song "Do the Hokie-Pokie" (I think that is the title--if not, it is something similar (ha ha - and and I said it was well known--never mind). It is an action song. We, of course, go through the motions of raising and lowering our arms and putting in, pulling out our legs. We make with our hands as if putting our anger in an imaginary rubbish bin and sprinkle with our hands as if sprinkling Jesus' love everywhere. We run on the spot as if we are running away from sin etc. We open our arms wide as if sharing with everyone the Savior's Love and similarly go through other gestures as they arise, ie raising both arms up high when singing the line "raise your spirit up" etc etc.--When singing the chorus we all join hands in a circle and skip into the middle together as we sing each "Share the Love of Jesus" line. For the last verse we all come in together from our circle and wave our arms as if spreading love everywhere. Well here it goes-hope it can be of some help to get all kids energized in their learning sessions. Our kids loved it!

Title: "Share the Love of Jesus"

" You put your left foot in , you pull your left foot out,
you put your anger in the bin, but sprinkle happiness about
you share the love of Jesus as you give a shout- Hey!!
----that's what it's all about! - Hey!"

Chorus:-
"Share the Love of Jesus!
Share the Love of Jesus!
Share the Love of Jesus!
----That's what it's all about! - Hey!"

"You put your right foot in, you pull your right foot out,
You run away from sin and you run away from doubt,
you share the Love of Jesus and you give a shout- Hey!
That's what it's all about! Hey!"

Chorus

"You lift your left arm up, you bring your left arm down,
you raise your spirit up and you wipe away a frown,
you share the Love of Jesus as you turn around--Hey!
---that's what it's all about. Hey!"

Chorus

"You raise your right arm up, your bring your right arm down,
You make Jesus number one as you hand to Him the crown,
you share the Love of Jesus as you turn around.-- Hey!
That's what it's all about. Hey!"

Chorus

"You put your whole body in, and you keep it there,
In the Body of Christ we never need to fear,
We share the love of Jesus and we spread it everywhere.--Hey!
That's what it's all about. Hey!"

Chorus

Hope it will be of benefit to all.
In Jesus,
Tony and Pink McGill

--from SSTN: you're welcome and great song!

4) Forgiveness Lesson

I heard of a wonderful exercise by a catechism teacher who asked the children to bring a potato to class! When they brought it, she gave them a small plastic bag, big enough to hold the potato and also a thread to tie the mouth of the bag. When they had done it, she asked them to take it home and forget about it, till the next Sunday when they had to bring it back to class! Once in class the teacher asked the students to open the bag, which had remained air tight till then (for over a week)…naturally… it was stinking! She drove home the lesson: if you keep your hurt, or the hurt you caused in your heart and just go about externally as if there is nothing wrong, you are bound to one day realize an unbearable stink. You better speak out, ask pardon, forgive, clarify and begin authentic, truthful and sincere relationships.

5) Help Kids Understand the Holy Spirit?

Hi and thanks for this wonderful internet resource. My name is Robert Kaduyu. I am a Ugandan student in Makerere University. I am in my 4th year in the College of Health Sciences, doing a bachelors degree in medicine and surgery.

Most importantly for now, the Lord has blessed me with a passion to reach out to all His people with the gospel message and to also tell them that he is coming back soon; so - "People get ready, Jesus is coming soon to take His own home".

For the kids (for whom he gave the passion most recently), His unwavering message remains: Let the little ones come to me and do not hinder them. Also: "Teach children in the way they should go, and they grow, they will not depart from it".

It's still a new experience for me. Today is Pentecost Sunday, so, I would like to ask how you can really communicate to children about the Holy Spirit. any ideas please.

On the contribution issue, i may start soon _ i will keep you posted on that. May God bless you. (kadrob77@yahoo.com )

God bless YOU in your ministry to children!

6)
Discipline Articles?

Do you have any information available on dealing with an unruly middle school child? We have a child in Sunday school of a single mother who does not listen or respect authority. His mother does not attend church regularly. The Sunday School Teacher does not discipline him. He threatens every new kid that comes. The teacher says she doesn't know what to do, and is too fearful to do anything as she doesn't want to lose the respect of his mother.

7) God's True Name?

I know that Jesus is the name given to us by which we can be saved and I know that there are a lot of names for God that describe his character but what is God’s true name?

--from SSTN: When Moses asked God what he should call him, God said, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.' " God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, `The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob--has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation." (Gen. 3:14-15)

"I Am" (Yahweh) is the covenant name of God. It is no mistake that Jesus referred to himself in these same terms:
"Before Abraham was I am." (John 8:58)
"I am the bread of life" (John 6:35,48,51).
"I am the light of the world" (John 8:12).
"I am the gate/door of the sheep" (John 10:7,9).
"I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11,14).
"I am the resurrection, and the life" (John 11:25).
"I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6).
"I am the true vine" (John 15:1,5).

9) Maryam & Marzieh: Acquitted and Free!

Fourteen months after they were arrested for their Christian faith and activities, Maryam Rostampour and Marzieh Amirizadeh have been acquitted of all charges by the Iranian judicial authorities. However, they were warned that any future Christian activity in Iran will be seriously dealt with.Today, Saturday May 22, 2010, they left Iran and arrived safely in another country. Sam and Lin Yeghnazar, founders of Elam Ministries and spiritual parents to Maryam and Marzieh, met them at the airport. It was a tearful reunion.

"It was very emotional when we first saw them," said Lin Yeghnazar, "Now, we want to see them rest and recover." Maryam and Marzieh are eager to thank Christians who have been praying for them. "We are most grateful to everyone who prayed for us," Marzieh said, "I have no doubt that God heard the prayers of His people." Maryam added, "I believe our arrest, imprisonment and subsequent release were in the timing and plan of God, and it was all for His glory. But the prayers of people encouraged and sustained us throughout this ordeal."

Both young women have shown exceptional courage, daring to tell an Islamic judge that they would never deny their faith in Christ. When Sam Yeghnazar told them their example had encouraged countless people around the world, they were quick to respond, "We are frail human beings with many weaknesses. The honour and glory go to God who has kept and used us, although we don't know why He has chosen us. All the glory goes to Him."

Maryam and Marzieh were arrested in March 2009 because of their Christian faith and were repeatedly placed under great pressure to recant and deny Jesus Christ. They faced repeated interrogations, weeks in solitary confinement, and unhealthy prison conditions. Both became seriously sick during their imprisonment and did not receive the treatment they needed which greatly increased their suffering. Senior judges and officials also intimidated them.

Despite this, they remained faithful to Jesus Christ and did not deny Him. After their conditional release from prison in November 2009, they have had a very trying six months waiting for their case to be heard in an Islamic court where they could have been sentenced to prison again. "We have seen the Lord do miracles over and over again. He kept us and gave us favour in prison, and sustained us during a very difficult period of waiting for our final trial," said Marzieh.
