The Pokeman article (archive12):

Although I don't think I would every use Pokeman as an example to teach
children about salvation in our church. (I would be afraid of too much misunderstanding). I would definitely use it when ministering to unchurched children.
It seems to be a great way to reach them on their level. I also like the article because it has made me more aware of the fact that we need to keep more in touch with what interests our children so that we might be able to minister to their
needs better.

*If we don't take the time to find out what is important to them, they may not want to take the time to find out what is important to us.

I teach a Sunday School class of age 15-18. My biggest problem is getting
them to be excited about being in Sunday School and participate.
Carla Laster

(From Christian Crafters: I don't teach SS to this age group, but I do have a 15 year
old child. This is a DIFFICULT age group, but it isn't impossible to reach. It is important to find out what their interests are, and relate and incorporate that into your lesson if at all possible.

Can anyone in the Network help Carla? What has worked for you-please share it!)

Here is a lesson about "Cain and Abel" that I used to teach my
class of pre-schoolers. (A lady asked for it in a recent newsletter :0))
When I taught them about it I showed them the difference between Cain
and Abel's offering by using a play "scale". On one side I put a lamb and
on the other veggies. One represented obedience and the other
disobedience. I also did explain murder to them. But I used the word
"kill". Children need to see what tragic effects happen when jealousy is
in your heart and also that God disciplines sin. Here is the paper:
Character Trait:
PEACE
Lesson #3: God Accepts Abel but Rejects Cain (Genesis 4)
· God knows everything
· Sin must be punished
· God is merciful and loving
Peace is doing things God’s way. Abel worshipped God in God’s way and
knew peace.
Cain choose to worship God in his own way
and had no peace with God, with himself, or with others.
MEMORY VERSE:
“The Lord disciplines those He loves…”
Proverbs 3:12

** I got these ideas from the Bethlehem Baptist Curriculum: "He has
Established a Testimony" by Sally Michael For each lesson I thought up
of a character trait and things about WHO GOD IS! Hope this helps

(Good for Valentine's Day!)

Here is a little Valentine bag just for you! Inside there is one very
special HEART LOCKET. Keep good care of it and remember this:
“Keep your heart with all keepings; for out of it are all the issues of
life.” Proverbs 4:23
With the heart we love. The Bible is telling us to be careful with what and
who we love! Guard your heart!

Love from Jesus, ABBAGAIL
