<>< <>< <>< <>< TODAY'S SSTN POSTINGS: <>< <>< <>< <><

1) Divorced and a pastor?

Do you think a divorced person should be a pastor?

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

2) New Year's Activities?

Does your church or Sunday school plan anything special for New Year's Eve
or New Year's Day? Please share it.

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

3) "Attitudes" Bulletin Boards?

For the attitude bulletin board, I was just thinking about a book by
probably barbara johnson called Sportin' a Tude or something like that.
Its for women mostly about how attitudes effect our lives. Anyways I got a
vision when I read your post, about a bulletin board with different sport
equipment representing a different attitude. Hence Sportin a Tude. Like
Soccer Ball could represent the attitude of Anger. (Not sock it to someone
in anger...instead sport the attitude of forgiveness.) and then maybe a
Football could represent an attitude of Gossip. (Don't put your foot in
your mouth by gossiping, instead tame your tongue) And then put a
scripture with it...Am I making sense? You could chose as many "Tudes" as
you want. This idea is growing on me as I type and maybe I will use it
myself. Thanks for making my brain work. This site is my favorite.

--from SSTN: Thank you. I can't wait to hear more of your inspiration!
For those interested, I believe "Sportin' a Tude" is by Patsy Clairmont.
It is available in our bookstore. Type the title into the search box to

4) Cheer Up request

This is my reply to your cheer-up request. I am so sorry about your
daughter
Laura but tell her to keep her faith strong. I was diagnosed with stage 4
Lung Cancer in October of 1997 at the age of 39, 3 weeks later it had
mestasized to my brain. I was told they would treat it aggressively but I
probably wouldn't live to see 44. Well, God had another plan. I wasn't a
Christian at that time but I had many Christian friends and relatives. The
prayer chains prayed for me from New York, To Florida, to  Alaska and many
in between. When I realized what was happening to me I went running to
church and salvation. God seen something in me that was worth saving. I
also
had kemo and a lifetime of radiation on both sides of my brain and my
lungs,
it was the devine intervention and that power of prayer that brought me
back
to life, tell Laura the same can be done for her!
Your Friend in Christ,
Judy Booth

5) Disruptive children

To the WONDERFUL PERSON WHO POSTED:  have been the pre-school/kinder.
director at my church for two years now. We have two boys, brothers, who
come from a very dysfunctional household, and attend with their
grandmother.
I thank you for coming forward. There are so many that are ready to JUDGE
these children and send them out...I posted a similar response several
weeks ago and was rebuffed by teachers who felt that the "troublemaker"
children were infringing on the rights of the others...I will only add to
your post that it is also a learning opportunity for the "regular"
children...we are not all the same, we come from all walks of life and as
teachers we are being trusted with a valuable resource...the
children...good, bad, whatever...I have found my greatest joy in helping
those who NEED the help...children who don't understand....GOD BLESS YOU!
thanks for the encouragement.....I thought I was alone!
Kym

6) Beatitudes

(Matthew 5:3-12, you can also use Gal. 5 v 22-23 fruit of the
spirit.

7) Valentine's Day activities?

I know it's early, but I'm planning ahead and I'm looking for a lesson
with activities for Valentine's Day. (i.e., skits?, crafts?, games?, etc.)

8) White elephant exchange

Gloria, small world! My uncle lives in Hatch, NM and my cousin used to
pastor in Las Cruces. Have you done the left right using the Christmas
story? That's fun.  Also, wrap each gift in multiple layers of wrap. Each
person can pick a number and the first one picks a gift. He unwraps one
layer of wrapping. The next person unwraps the 2nd layer and so on.  We do
this in Ss and at parties for the door prizes.

This would take a long time with so many people, so here e is what I
suggest.  Ask each person to wrap their gift multiple times.  Sit in a
circle. Play music and pass the gifts. When the music stops you unwrap the
first layer of wrap from the gift in your hand. Then start the music and
pass the gifts. When it stops you unwrap the 2nd layer.  If a person
unwraps the last layer he keeps the gift and leaves the circle.  Continue
until all gifts are unwrapped.

graham cracker bears which they baptized in the blue jello.

10) Christmas Traditions

We have several traditions within our family and church.
a) Our children (now 20 & 21) pick out an ornament each year, which we
date (in the bottom). This has been going on all their lives, and when
they move out they will have a nice collection of ornaments.
b) We always have a special project, helping someone in need.  This has
varied from year to year, one year we had 2 children from a Children's
home spend the holidays with us, Other years we have purchased gifts and
sent them to the home.  We have participated in project Angel Tree, sent
missionary kids boxes, etc. One of the most fun things was when we bought
clothes for a family attending our church (one outfit for each of the 5
children). We wrapped them and snuck up on their front porch and left the
gifts.  The next morning (Sunday) they arrived at church in their new
clothes, telling us all about finding them on the porch. They never knew
who put them there -- which added to the fun.
c) Each year my children and I make a cookie or candy house (or train, or
church). Each year we choose something different and we have been doing
this since they were very small. When they reached 15 & 16 I was sure they
would want to stop. I was wrong, we are still doing it!
d) We have an annual gathering at our house Christmas Eve for family,
church family, friends, anyone who wants to attend.  My husband tells the
Christmas story, we lead a discussion (this varies, we have talked about
traditions, memories, etc.), we sing carols and eat finger foods.  Does
not last a real long time, so families can do whatever else they want to
do that night, but it is a fun time of getting together. Last year we did
not do this (we went out of town) and we heard about it from our church
family! LOL
e) We do the usual things at church, Christmas tea, Christmas Banquet,
Children's Christmas party (although this year we are having a formal
banquet for SS, ages 9 & up).
