I am in the same situation - although we do not have the 3 year olds in our classroom. We have just started a new program that will include puppet shows and drama 2 Sundays of the month. My son is in my class also and he is a big problem too - because when it's Mom he knows exactly how far he can push and get away with it (he's 7). He does better when I let him help me out before class - he sets up tables and chairs and helps lay out the lesson and activities. Then he feels like he is important and he gets that extra Mom time with me. I have found that with all those ages the best thing to do is to keep the class moving and keep the kids busy. Let them be involved during lesson time by having them volunteer whenever you do a demonstration. You might try having tables set up with different activities so that the different ages and kids with different interests can find something that appeals to them. You could have worksheets for the older kids, coloring sheets for the younger kids, and a craft for everyone. We have a general lesson time with our group and the kids play games together also - then we will split them up and let them choose what they would like to do. If the lesson and activities run short then we always have a standard list of backup games for the kids to do until church is out. Good luck! and keep trying until you find what works best for you. 2) Holding everyone's attention
I am teaching Children's Church....ages 2-6. I know that is a big age
difference and I am having a hard time holding everyone's attention.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

3) Reading level program?
When I was in elementary school (60's), there was an independent reading program called SRA. It was a library of short readings at a dozen or so reading levels. Each reading had a little test. When you were done with all the stories at the first level, you moved on to a more advanced one. I would love to have something like this made of Bible stories. I would have kids work on them as they arrive for Sunday School. Some would have time to do several before the last latecomers arrive. Does a program like this exist already, perhaps for Christian homeschoolers? I am so lucky to be a Sunday School teacher. Arlene Barber BuyDaPearl@aol.com

4) Keeping them interested?
What would be an exciting way to keep k-3rd children interested in our
15 min. of story telling? I usually have 4-7 in my class.

5) Thanksgiving Prayer or Poem?

6) Banner Idea
I just made a rather quick and easy banner to display the mission statement
for my 5th & 6th grade class. I think the same format will work for you.
If you have Microsoft Word, use WordArt to make each letter on the banner.
Put one letter on each page so that each letter will be approximately 11x8
inches large.
Pick two colors of card stock. Let's say you use yellow and orange. "W" will
be printed on yellow, "E" printed on orange, etc. "Mat" each letter on the
alternate color: Yellow on orange and vise versa, showing about two inches of
the "mat" on two sides of each letter.
Purchase a coordinating wrapping paper, cut in half lengthwise and tape to
make a long "banner". Finally, glue each letter/mat evenly spaced on the

7) Recruiting Sunday School teachers
To help with the problem of recruiting Sunday School teachers....We had that problem in our church too. One thing we found makes it easier if you ask for short term teaching
commitments. For example we ask for teachers to make a 6 week commitment. During the 6 weeks there is a video week in which groups of age appropriate children will gather for a Bible video and snacks. For example 3 weeks teaching -1 week off (video) - 3 weeks teaching. That gives the teachers a break during their 6 week teaching
commitment. After the six weeks is over we do have to have the next group of teachers lined up and ready to go. It takes
a little more effort but we find that more people are willing to give their time if it they do not have to make the
commitment for a whole year. More times than not after the teachers have had a break they will volunteer to teach again. It also gives the children a chance to get to know more members of the congregation. The first year we tried it some kinks had to be ironed out but now the second year we actually have a pool of teachers who rotate on and off for the school year. We also encourage team teaching example husband/wife team, parent/child, two friends together. That can make it fun! My husband and I teach Senior High Class together and we love it so much we make the
commitment for the whole year. It has helped us to grow together. This is our 5th year. The teachers we have love this method and tell others, who have now volunteered their time where they would not have otherwise. I hope this will help you .

8) Free Literature for 2-3-4 year olds
I teach 2-3-4 year olds. I have literature for this age group for Sunday School and
Children's Church, pictures and all and would like to share this literature with anyone that needs it. It goes to waste and I can't hardly stand it. I will ship to whoever needs material for this age group. Betty Bradley

9) Banner Idea
For the banner-- Why not call up your paper in your area and ask them if they could give you the end off the roll off newsprint. Then use that to create the banner with. I have used newsprint for
a lot of things and banners are one of them. And usually the paper will give it away. Joelene, Jackson,Mi.
