1) Survey for Workshop

>>>>>>>
>a. If you were sending your staff to a workshop, what classes would you
like to see offered? What General sessions?
b. What are your greatest needs/weaknesses regarding training (songs,
teaching ideas, object lessons, motivation, etc.)?
c. What areas would you like to see improved in the Children's Ministry
department at your church?
d. How many workshops/traiing sessions do you attend per year?
e. What is the most impressive thing you have ever seen or learned at a
workshop/conference?
<<<<<<

Great questions Teresa - my responses, in order:
a.  I would want my staff to be aware of all the resources available to
them including  - web sites, message boards, email messages such as SSTN.
If the conference is large enough, vendor displays are always helpful.
Workshops should be specific to age groups and the type of ministry, e.g.,
Sunday School or Children's Church.   Subjects that teach techniques for
games, music, use of puppets, drama, and storytelling are always great and
a workshop on classroom management.  In the General session it is good to
be challenged/motivated and appreciated.   You would want your teachers to
come away excited, motivated and ready for the challenge of Children's
Ministry!
b.  My greatest need is class management for large groups of preschoolers.
c.  I would like to see our church put more value on children's ministry.
We need an overall plan, good communication, and accountability.
d.  I try to attend a non-denominational workshop held in our city every
year.
e.  If I can get one or two great ideas that I can use in my classroom I
feel that my time has been well spent.  And I like to come away from a
workshop with validation that I am on the right track, and with new
enthusiasm.

3) Age of Accountability

I have watched with great interest the debate that is ongoing in this line
of thought.  Of course it is not our works that save us, but it is only by
God's Grace.  However, God does have instruction for us to follow.  If we
love Him, we will obey Him (Mark 12:30.  If we choose not to obey His
explicit instructions, how can we expect to be saved? (1 Peter 4:17)  No,
we are not saved by works.  We are saved by Grace.  But should we go on
sinning so that His Grace may increase?  (Romans 6:1) I think not.  If a
child knows better than to willfully sin, then I believe he/she is
accountable to God for their lack of obedience.  I do not think that I
will have much argument that those adults who willfully sin against God
should not expect His Grace to save them?  Obeying God is not "works", it
is doing the will of the Father.  As Christ said, (Matthew 7:21) not
everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, but only he who
does the will of the Father!
Jesus plainly states, believe, repent, be baptized, calling on the name of
the Father (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Luke 24:47) If God did not require
anything of us, no obedience, no love for Him, then why have faith?  If
this were the case, then everyone would be saved anyway, so do what you
want, God will forgive you for willingly sinning against His commands. Yes
it is God's grace, but we must love Him and obey His word in response to
His Grace, not continue in sin so that He may forgive us more.  I don't
know what the age of accountability is.  I think it is real, and I think
that it is probably different for each child.  I do not believe in a God
that would allow innocent children to be cast into Gehenna, for He is a
God of Love (1 John, all of it!)  At the same time, I believe that if we
willingly sin against Him, we must repent and ask His forgiveness, no
matter our age.  That's my two cents.

With Christ's Love, Kristine <><

--from SSTN: Kristine: that was definitely worth more than two cents. ;o)
Thank you! ysic, Sarah.

4) Song about Ruth

On a CD Carman recorded for kids called "Yo Kidz", he has a song about
Ruth called "I Will Go."  The whole CD is fun for kids (and grown-ups) to
listen to.  Each song covers a different Bible hero.  (We always liked
"Joe is a hero" and "Daniel and the Dangerous Dudes".)

Have fun!

6) S-A-L-V-A-T-I-O-N  song?

I am looking for a cassette that includes the Child Evangelism song
S-A-L-V-A-T-I-O-N.  Starts out "No,you can't get to Heaven without
S-A-L-V-A-T-I-O-N.  Child Evangelism doesn't have it on a tape or cd.
Anyone know if any other company has recorded it?
Thanks!

7) Disruptive students

I was shocked and deeply saddened by some of the answers to this problem.
Look deeply inside yourselves everyone. If there is a disruptive child,
would Jesus “send him out?” or is that the one that REALLY needs us? I’m
sorry, I am the single mother of a 12 year old with ADHD and an 8 year old
with autism (as well as 2 normal children)…when something I am doing with
them, or in my 3 year old classroom at church, in my regular classroom
setting in public schools, or anywhere I am working with children I think
it is MY responsibility to “bring that child around” that is in fact why I
chose to be a teacher…it is easy to teach a BRIGHT child, a child who is
EAGER to learn, the real challenge and the reason for the special meaning
of “TEACHER” is that we WORK to reach the unreachable. Sorry to all of
those who now feel I am being too harsh with you…It’s my understanding
that Jesus himself said “Let the little children come to me…” I doubt he
meant “well, only those who can behave appropriately…” sometimes teaching
is a real challenge. It’s our job to find out what works best…use the
tools that are out there…their parents, books, and others who work with
children…you’ll find a way, and we will all be the better for the effort.
Thank you for your time and understanding. Kym

9) Ideas for multi-aged class

For Dorekha in Austin
If you are by yourself I  suggest you break your children up into three
groups with an older responsible child in each group who will be your
assistant for that group.   They can help with passing out craft supplies,
help little ones make their crafts and keep smaller children calmed down.
A shoebox of craft supplies for each group can be set aside; glue sticks,
child proof scissors, stickers, string, etc.
Find a well known story and tell it with all your heart, don't be afraid
to explode with actions while telling it.  If talking about lions let the
kids ROAR, etc. Do a song and memory verse that goes along with the story,
and then a simple craft if time permits.  The next week repeat the same
story using a different approach.  You might use puppets one week, a skit
the next week, a video one week, and so on.  Use the same verse and song
every week but, a different craft each week to be taken home. Crafts can
be very simple; finger puppets (let the kids tell the story with them is
one simple idea. Award a simple prize such as a candy bar or pack of gum
if they can repeat the memory verse on the last week.  Introduce a new
story theme about every three to four weeks.  This will really instill the
meaning and importance of the story and the memory verse will stick with
them.
Oh, putting your memory verse words on balloons (one word per balloon) and
hanging them on a string strung across the room is a great eye catcher.
Pop one balloon at a time and have the children repeat the verse. Keep
popping until all words and scripture reference has been popped.  Kids
from 2-102 love this idea.  Good luck Keep us posted!

10) Youth decorating their own room

This was an idea I saw at an older church.  It was fantastic.   Give each
child a large squirt gun filled with thin-downed paint. Use a different
color for each child.  With paint smocks on and guns in hand.......  On
your mark, get set,  go........all over the walls!!!!!  Good luck and have
fun!  DAR

11) Info for printing song

I've messed up.  I sent the Noteworthy Player along with my song to
everyone.  I thought it was working fine because I've gotten MANY, MANY
thank yous. However, I'm starting to get feedback that they cannot print
the sheet music.  I suggested CTRL + P and this still doesn't work.  Since
I do not use the player, but the whole program I was not aware of this
until I downloaded the program and tried it.
SOLUTION:  Download the EVALUTATION program of Noteworthy Composer
instead. It is free and can be used for 30 days.  The address is:

http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/evaluate.htm

Would it be too much trouble to send out this info to the list as I've
already sent out over 50 copies and I haven't kept up with all the
addresses after they were sent?

Sorry for this inconvenience.
Thanks and God bless,
Tammie

12) Free Bibles

Hi!  I don't know of any organization other than the Gideons that give
away free Bibles, but I have seen some KJV Bibles at the local dollar
store for just $1 each.  They aren't leather bound, just paperbacks, and
there isn't any dictionary or concordance, but the Bible is all there, I
think they might even have maps.  Check out the book section of your
dollar store before giving up hope.  Who knows, the manager or owner
might be persuaded to donate them!

Blessings,
Teresa W.
