1) Youth Round-Up

My church has starting this particular ministry on Friday nights called Youth Round -Up, (11-18 years old). This year I have been asked to serve as the Activity Coordinator. And what I have to do is plan activity for them each Friday night. Do anyone have any ideas. I have a few such as bible jeopardy. I need something that is going to be bibicial and keep their attention for about 30 minutes to an hour. If you all can help please let me know as soon as possible.

2) Christmas Plays, not the norm...

Hi. I love you newsletter. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for something for the children to do at Christmas (other than the normal nativity play) for the parents. I teach 7-9 year olds and am looking for something that children from 7-12 can do, and still enjoy. Thanks and God Bless. Anne-amgorton@twcny.rr.com

--from ChristianCrafters.Com: make sure you check out the Bible Skits page for some Christmas Plays that are definitely not your 'regular nativity play'. Also, the Bookstore has some great skits too!

3) BRIDAL SHOWER GAMES

What we did this past weekend was pass out numbered 3x5 index cards. The ladies with odd numbers were "Ken" and the ladies with even numbered cards were "Faith". We told a story about how busy the couple had been and how nervous they were throughout the day and how everything had turned out beautifully but now it was time for the "honeymoon!" Remembering that the couple was nervous to be alone and what would be expected next, the odd #'s wrote down what Ken might say next. The even #'s wrote down what Faith might say in response. No one knows what the others are writing. After everyone is finished you turn your cards in and the two stacks of even and odd cards are given to two people. They take turns in numbered sequence reading the cards. For example, #1 Ken says, "What is for desert?"...#2 Faith says, "I think that your forgot something." The responses are already written and it was funny and cute how they turned out just perfect. It was a lot of fun and laughes and it stayed within the bounderies of a "church" shower.

4) BRIDAL SHOWER GAMES

Last year, our pastor's oldest son got married. We played "BRIDE" (like
BINGO) Each guest gets a paper with 25 boxes on it (a 5 by 5 grid). All
the boxes are blank except the center one (that's a free space--you could
put the bride and groom's name in it). The guests write in the boxes
what they think the bride will receive for gifts that day. (Of course,
if they've brought one they know one already.) They can put an x in the
appropriate square on their paper as the bride opens gifts. Have a small
gift for the first person to shout "BRIDE!" Dana - St. Clair Shores, MI

5) Christmas songs

In response to Tweety in PA re: Christmas songs: we adults like peaceful melodies like "Silent Night", but the kids in our urban outreach prefer rhythm. We have successfully used "The Little Drummer Boy"(march), "Mary's Little Boy Child"(calypso), and "Feliz Navidad" (popularized by Jose Feliciano). Old Gospels like "Go Tell It On The Mountain" are also good. - Hugh, 1st Mennonite, Johnstown PA

6) Offering Lessons?

Hi, I am looking for lessons to teach my sundy school staff on how to take an offering in the sunday school class, their attitude on offering, teaching the children about giving. This will be part of a teacher's training. Thank you for all your help.
God Bless You

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

7) Disabled adults

In reference to the question on materials for disabled adults, we have had a class of disabled adults (MR) since 1967. We started with kindergarten material, but like you, found this was not challenging enough. We changed to 1st-2nd grade, then 3rd-4th grade, then 5th-6th grade material and finally youth material. We have found that either 5th-6th grade or youth material is quite appropriate. We incorporate crafts and music. They love to sing. We have a music leader with a guitar. Also we have acquired bell plates and they play by the director pointing to them when they need to ring their bell. You would be surprised at their success! Hope this helps.

8) Birthday Party for Jesus

We printed simple ornament shapes on card stock- like stars and angels,
round circles, sheep, stable shapes, etc. (trace cookie cutters for the
outlines or use a color book) We then distributed them in the bulletins,
or use mailboxes, hand them out, or have available on a table etc. We
asked that they be decorated and colored however they wished with
instructions to bring them back to the party, and we will use them to
decorate a Christmas tree at church. It was great to see the creativity
of the ornaments that were made, and it was a great project for families.
They can bring them forward during the service (what we did) to decorate
or have the tree as part of the fellowship time. Hey, you could use some
of Sarah's ideas for Chrismons too! Families picked up their ornaments
after the holiday so they could add the memories to their own tree next
year.

Also- why not have members bring wrapped religious children's books or
children's bibles to be taken to the local mission for presents for the
children. Make a tag that says boy or girl and the ages appropriate for
the book. Or you could wrap them at the party and make the gift tags! The older
people will be able to help teach the younger ones to wrap the presents,
they could bring the paper and tape and scissors!
I recommend an awesome 1st-4th grade "Kids Bible" by Zondervan
publishers, it is in a easy reading " New Readers Version"- with
fantastic "kid drawn" looking illustrations by a local artist Joel
Tannis- a neat guy with an awesome testimony and ministry. It has great
helps and quotes, written in to help kids notice a verse and gives fun
history facts too.

--from ChristianCrafters.Com: Thanks for the plug! A reminder to everyone, there are many free patterns in the Crafts section to make ornaments! Blessings, Sarah Keith.

9) Bridal Shower Games

I JUST HAPPEN TO BE A WEDDING PLANNER/COORDINATOR. I'D LIKE TO HELP.
GAME #1 POCKET BOOK GAME
WE HAVE THE COMMON; POCKET BOOK GAME, WHERE THE HOST HAS A LIST OF (10 ITEMS) AND AS SHE LIST EACH ITEM, THE GUEST BEGIN TO TAKE IT OUT OF THEIR POCKET BOOKS IF THEY HAVE IT.

IF YOU'RE HAVING BRIDAL SHOWER AT A CATERERS; THE TABLE THAT COMES CLOSEST TO HAVING ALL THE ITEMS; EVERY ONE SITTING AT THAT TABLE WINS A SMALL GIFT. (YOU MAY USE 0.99 CENTS ITEMS- THEY HAVE GREAT LITTLE GIFTS).
IF THE SHOWER IS MORE INTIMATE WITH JUST CLOSE FRIENDS; THE ONE WHO COMES CLOSEST TO HAVING ALL THE ITEMS AS AN INDIVIDUAL, WINS A GIFT.
ALWAYS HAVE MORE THAN ONE GIFT; IN CASE THERE'S A TIE.

GAME #2 - A QUESTION FOR A DOLLAR...
YOU PREPARE TO HAVE SMAL PIECES OF PAPER AND PENCILS. YOU PUT THE ITEMS IN A DECORATED BASKET. YOU GO AROUND AND HAVE THE GUEST WRITE QUESTION TO THE BRIDE AND GROOM OR JUST TO THE BRIDE, BUT THEY HAVE TO PUT A DOLLAR IN THE BASKET IN ORDER TO WRITE THE QUESTION.
GIVE THE GUESTS A FEW MOMENTS TO WRITE DOWN THEIR QUESTIONS THENGO AROUND AND COLLECT THE QUESTIONS. AND THE END OF QUESTION TIME GIVE THE BRIDE THE ENVELOPE WITH THE MONEY IN IT.

HAVE FUN AND CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PASTOR'S WEDDING.
GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!
